    what GPS unit to buy?

    I have a $200 gift certificate to amazon and I want to buy a gps receiver for the carputer. I am going to be using linux with usb and need to know if amazon has something that will work.

    That's a BU-353. Same unit I have. Same unit that's sold in the store here. I haven't heard of any users complain about this unit.

    Thanks guys. I ordered the BU-353 and iguidance 3. Not sure that I'll get iguidance 3 running in linux, but it will be fun trying to make it work.

    Well, I got everything today. All I had to do was apt-get install gpsd and run gpsdrive and everything showed up working. I tried to install iGuidance 3, but alas , as I expected there was no luck in that (yet)

    i havent tried ig3 in linux yet (as i currently dont have an optical drive hooked up to ANY of my linux machines.) but ive always wanted to try it in wine.
    1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 4x4 in Evergreen Pearl Metallic, Lifted, Locked, and Armored. CarPc in custom console with molded touchscreen.

    iGuidance 2.1.3 in Wine
    Screen shots are posted in the thread

    Geese and others have had some luck with Wine. I have been able to run iG v3 in crossover in ubuntu and limited success in DSL.
