    Question Buying a USB GPS

Are there any stores (best buy, circuit city, microcenter, compusa, stuff like that) that would sell a USB GPS receiver? I've checked all of there websites, but I'm not sure if I was looking in the right place, and I checked around this site, but I wasn't too sure on what terms to put in the search bar. I'm looking to go get it today and play around with it, thats why I'd rather go somewhere and buy it then have it shipped to me.

    Thanks.

PRobably not at the chain stores. GPS receivers are such a niche market, the larger chain stores aren't likely to carry them since they focus more on consumer-level devices rather than DIYers.

I wholly understand the desire to have the instant gratification of purchasing something and not having to wait until it arrives to tinker with it, but I don't know if it's possible.

If you have a make/model of GPS receiver in mind (my recommendation is the BU-353), you can always call local shops to see if it's something they carry. You might also try smaller local shops to see if it's something they would have, as well.

    Good luck.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I like the Garmin GPS 18 because it looks nice mounted on the outside of my car but you will need to get a port splitter to get it to work I use Franson's GPS gate ($10). I am happy with my setup.
If you do get the Garmin, get the OEM because the nRoute software that comes with the unit is garbage.

btw, this guy had my GPS in my hands in less than a day. I ordered at 2PM and got it the next day at 9am. I had to pay for it but it was quick.

    All in one solutions

You can get USB GPS units but they come bundled with the software.

I work at CCity part time(where I'm typing this) and I'm looking at MS Mappoint 2006 with their USB GPS mouse bundled for $350 which is highway robbery IMHO.

We also stock Delorme LT-20 with voice commands for $100. That's a little more reasonable.
