Is there an easy way to integrate GPS coordinates with google local or google maps?
Lots of times I'm in the car and want to find the nearest InNout. Iguidance works for points of interest but google obviously has a bigger database for other things.
I know I can manually record the gps coordinates and type them into google but there should be an easy way to send them!
I found franson's gpsgate that allows for something like this but haven't had time to try it out yet.
Also the new MS Streets and Trips 2007 is integrated with Windows Live and exactly what I'm looking for so I'll probably get a copy but I also like using google instead of MS stuff.
I get internet on sprint's evdo and it's pretty fast but google local doesn't have much bandwidth requirements anyway.
The common question is always, what pizza places are good around here? Everything is available, gps coords, map data, people just need to make a simple integration...
S&T definitely is on my to buy list...
Takes a while to get started, sometimes 10 minutes or so, but once maps are loaded, seems to keep up.
You need a "proper" google map to work with this - not all will operate, including the default google.com/maps. Instead, try one of the demos on the google maps api documentation pages, that worked for me today when I couldn't get to my own server. You'll know you have a "good" map when the gpsgate toolbar "lights up".
moved my home server to a hosted site last night, and the performance on google maps via boost improved - still some lag loading maps, esp at highway travel speeds - would guess that it's very tolerable at > 20kbps speeds
