Sprint has this service where you can keep track of your "child" through their GPS enabled phone...checkable either on YOUR phone or through a web interface...I wonder if that is relevant to this thread...and if it could be polled at regular intervals to give a track.

    NewBend might help in tracking.

Tracking a moving object is easy, but navigating to it is another problem all together! You can't use current navigation techniques as they all assume a fixed destination.

One approach is to aim at an area around the target, and navigate there, and decrease the size of the area the closer you get to it. I've not seen any navigation s/w that does this.

Just need to be able to change destination on the fly.

Shouldn't be to hard to adapt FreeDrive to do this. There would have to be a minimum amount of time between re routes though.

If its just about two buddies tracking each other for a trip or whatever reason you could easily working around a internet server connection. Just connect directly the two phones via old school dial up. would probably give you real time update rates (1hz) without lag.

I guess you could, but it wouldn't be a minimum time, it would be by distance, getting quicker as you approach the target.

No, what I mean is because of the time it would take to recalculate a route, you would have to be careful not to ask it to recalculate too often otherwise the time between recalculation requests might be less than the time it takes to recalculate. Obviously the nearer you are to the object the quicker it will calculate.

I still think it is do able, would just need to add some extra SDK commands to freedrive.
