Yep, got to say it's all yours.

In fact that was a pretty stupid thing to do as the car turning in front of you blocked your view of oncoming traffic. There was no way you could see it was clear.

Actually I'm going to upgrade that to a very dangerous thing to do.

*edit to say sorry I have to be so blunt.

If there's a car already in the intersection waiting to turn left in front of me (in your case the black one in front of you) then I never enter the intersection until that car has safely made the turn.

I can't tell you how many times I get honked at for not moving into the intersection so I can understand the pressure to do so and the panic that follows when the light turns and you have to go.

erkme73, did you manage to get anywhere with DOD about a firmware update for the GS600 to correct the error with the speed sync as well as the lost frames between segments?

Hopefully they'll put out an app that will allow the segment length to be adjusted.

Hi guys, I've been lurking in this thread for about 3 hours now reading all of the replies. I've wanted to get a dash cam for a few months now, just to show others the nature of my driving / how others drive. I haven't really been too interested in purchasing anything until lately when someone ran a red light and PLOWED into another driver, with children in the back. I've been checking out some of the dash cams you use, along with watching the videos that you posted. I've set up a "test" video up, with my Flip UltraHD (here) which is nice quality, but has no GPS overlap built in, and some other minor annoyances. I've seen that you guys tend to like http://www.dod-tec.com/ cams, and I was reading you thoughts on the GS600. I really like this one, the specs seem like what I am looking for, I am just unsure of the price (ebay?). I also wanted to know if you think I should wait for another one of their products. Maybe one of you can tell me how long it takes for them to release new stuff.

    Thanks
    -Dustin

My apologies for delayed reply. In short, no. DOD says their latest production version does not have the same issues (GPS lag, delayed read/write gap, and segment adjustment - up to 15 min/segment now). But, they said there is no upgrading the original unit - whether by me, or even if I send it back to them for upgrade.

I guess when you're the pioneer, sometimes you come back with arrows in your head. That's me...

Since I cannot verify if the current GS600 is in fact better - and I don't know how you can identify the newer style - I'd strongly discourage anyone from buying it... especially from any reseller who doesn't guarantee the deficiencies have been resolved.

To the guy in the smashed car making a left turn - I can relate. My wife was the driver in the white car - well, not in this case but in a wreck eerily similar. The officer was going to write her the ticket, but fortunately a witness stopped and confirmed that she entered on a yellow. Sorry for your bad luck - but in this case, I agree with all others. You both had the right to be there, but you had to yield.

Yea, stuff happens, so I really aint sweating it anymore. The truck is being fixed, so I guess thats all that matters. I no longer pull forward though on left turns!

If there is no body behind you, do as you please, but it drives me sooo crazy when I am behind someone that is sitting behind the limit-line with a green light. If you are turning left, you MUST pull in to the intersection so that when it is safe to proceed, you (and me behind you) can get through the intersection quickly. Not pulling up is likely to cause me to road-rage swerve around you while holding my horn, and while I would never cause an accident doing that, others that feel the same way and are not as attentive drivers as I am might

This is especially true when the light is about to turn yellow/red. I've been stuck behind someone not pulling up before and they missed the entire light rotation. If there is no arrow and too much strait traffic, two cars still get to turn left at the end of each rotation! Why? Because two cars should already be over the limit line while the light is green/yellow, and therefore when it turns red and the strait traffic stops, those two cars are entitled to proceed and get out of the intersection.

If you can't handle that and don't feel safe, then you should pass your turn and make 3 rights, don't delay other people that know how to drive properly.

EDIT: Ok, now that I have watched the video, I am even more wondering WTF. First off, the accident was 100% your fault HiJackZX1!!! Even if the other car ran a red light, it is still your fault. You should had seen the other car coming and either waited until you were sure he was stopping, waited until he passed you, or be positive that if he kept traveling at his current speed you could still get through the lane before he would hit you. Second, what does that have anything to do with pulling forward on a left? You were supposed to be in the middle of the intersection waiting for him to pass or stop (or gunning it to get through first). Instead you pulled fully in to his lane as he was obviously headed toward you.

I'm not going to throw around any insults, but that was 100% your fault and has 0% of anything to do with pulling forward on a left vs. staying behind the limit line. The one thing I am going to say is I would be to your benefit to take real behind-the-wheel defensive driving class. Stuff happens to all of us, so I would not insist you needed it if you had felt 100% at fault, but the fact you are asking who's fault it is tells me that you need some extra training.
(sorry if I come across mean, I'm just telling it how I see it)

EDIT2: The white car totally entered on a yellow. I could see him coming through the window of the black mazda in front of you. You need to drive strait in to the intersection, wait for the rear bumper of the mazda to be across the first lane, and then decide if you can turn your wheels to the left or not. Whenever you make a left your eyes should be at the top corner of the rear-bumper, passenger-side of the car in front of you. Keeping my eyes there in your video I can clearly see the white car flying towards me, and would not have my wheels pointed left at all yet (but I would be waiting in the middle of the intersection)

---------- Post added at 06:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 PM ----------

CPK: Why in the beginning of your video do you make a left in to the right-lane? You don't even turn right immediately after that! When you make a left, you MUST turn in to the left lane, then signal right and change lanes. I realize no body does this, as I see it way too often when waiting to make a right while a bunch of left turners are turning in to both lanes, but since I'm giving my view of driving lessons here anyway, I felt I needed to comment.

If there is only one left-hand-turn-lane and the street has 2 lanes, I should be able to safely make a right coming from the other direction without worrying about the on coming left-hand turners turning in to my lane. I've even got honked at my making a safe right in front of an on coming left-turner that was choosing the wrong lane. He like saying to me: "Even though you could safely turn before me and I didn't need to touch my breaks to avoid hitting you, plus I could easily turn in to my proper lane as the law REQUIRES, I still think you are at fault for pulling in front of me instead of waiting there." That ****es me off lol

I know its my fault, thats obvious. i should have yielded to him, even if he to was running a yellow light. The car in front of me was completely blocking my line of site. You do not see that in the camera because the camera sits high up on the windshield. So even though the camera saw an on coming car, I didnt. Obviously you need to get all the facts and watch the video more carefully.

The SUV in front was blocking my sight. If you watch the video the light turns yellow and he stops real fast then floors it. To me that indicated that his path was clear so I simply followed. I had no idea that a car was still traveling forward and thats the reason the SUV in front suddenly floored it.

OH Please, ive been driving since I was 16 with this being my second accident. Dont recommend nothing to me. When my license no longer says safe driver, then I will consider it. As of now, it still says safe driver. My only mistake was tall gating that stupid @$$ in the Infiniti and relying on him to make a call on what is in front of me.

Like I said before, the camera sits way higher then my vantage point.

In the beginning of the video Im driving straight. Then slowly turn into the left lane because nothing is behind me. I think your imagining things, unless your talking about another video. If so please be specific and specify which video so you dont look like a whack job.
