Sorry, but as long as I enter the intersection before the light turns red, I can legally remain there until oncoming traffic is clear and it is safe to complete my turn. This is true even if the light turns red while I am waiting.

I wish more people would do it, as it improves throughput and minimizes waiting times for everyone. It really sucks to be stuck waiting through an extra light cycle because the driver ahead of you was too timid to pull out into the intersection.

It's dangerous to sit out in the middle of the intersection, especially large ones.

If there is a car in front of me already in the intersection, I may also move into the intersection depending on the circumstances.

If the volume of oncoming traffic is light, I will proceed into the intersection behind the car in front of me. If there are two or three lanes of heavy oncoming traffic, I am not going to risk making my turn on a red, the chance of an oncoming car running the red is too great.

If I am the first car waiting to turn left, I will only advance into the intersection if the cars approaching perpendicular to me on my left have stopped for the red light. This reduces the chance that a red-light runner will hit the left side of my car.

The other thing to keep in mind is keeping out of the intersection allows emergency vehicles more room to get through should they need to.

My safety trumps your inability to remain patient through another light cycle.

It's not that big, but the 600 is smaller overall. But I like your mounting system better, I don't like suction cups, this would probably be illegal in CA (I can't mount my radar detector in the dash, just bought a valentine one and had to buy mounts for the rearview mirror).

BTW, watching your cables, I ended up buying also this:

I hope I can hide all my cables there (Radar detector and GPS-DVR-CAM combo).

I understand both views, you have to balance good manners/care for the others with safety for yourself, tending for safety of course. I would feel bad to always be the only one to make it through green, so that's why some balance is needed.

I actually like it better when everybody is doing "unsafe" things (say waiting in the intersection), that makes the unsafe option predictable, and the go in the last moment, "safe" guy is the one causing trouble.

What would really increase the output would be if more people would simply FLOOR IT when the light turns green on busy intersections. Even if one waited to the last, safest moment, at least show an effort and loose traction...I would approve that...:-)

The guy who wants to get off slowly to save gas, or whatever, in any circunstance, frankly...oh well, I rather not say it. :-)

Seems like DoD has a US distributor. Check out http://dod-tec.us

Free shipping across US and they seem to have a 14-Day money-back return policy as well

The suction cup mount that came with my GS600 wasn't very good, didn't stick and was big.

Puzzled as to how I was going to mount the camera, I went to Home Depot for some inspiration.

A dollar seventy something and a pack of these:

    Resulted in:

Works well I think! Except I wish the camera was just a bit higher.

Very cool videos, but then again gorgeous day...are you recording 1080p? Even after the usually criminal you tube processing, yours look great.

I'm thorn about putting down $250.00 for one of these. But I feels it's the only way to go. I'm concerned with reliability and updates, they seem to abandon older models (see above).

I also wanted a bumper/grille camera (for starters, I already have a rear camera, but I want side view ones) so I just bought a claimed 0 lux big swann. After installing it, I realized it glows red. Wtf. It looks like there's a red light behind the grille making it pretty obvious theres a camera there - or if don't know better an unmarked police car or something. What do you think, cool or not cool?

WOW, very clear picture. If this had the ability to add a second camera, I would be all over this.

The red glow is pretty faint. All of mine have the red glow, but its nothing that makes people think im police. Normally they see the screen with them in it first. Then I have to deal with people waving or flashing their headlights at the car to see if they are being watched and can see themselves. I wouldnt worry about it at all. Also my understanding is it becomes an issue if its a flashing red light, it isnt, so I wouldnt worry.

I was thinking a grille camera too but for recording I wanted something mounted higher in the car. As for it glowing red it sounds like they used low quality IR lights for illumination. Or maybe they can all be seen a to a degree. I'd be a little worried about drawing attention to it.

At $160 I think the GS-600 is a fair price. If the GPS speed was accurate, didn't bounce around and was in sync with the video. I also don't like the short clips it makes, they're broken up into one minute segments. And despite it having a small battery inside to make sure the last clip is saved properly to the memory card when the power is cut, the clip is inevitably corrupted. I heard that these issues were corrected in the final product but I cannot confirm first-hand.

So, I'd happily pay $160+shipping, if not a bit more if it all worked properly, but I think $250 is a bit too steep.

I originally got this camera to 1) capture idiot drivers and put them on YouTube and 2) have a GPS speed superimposed over the video for defence purposes should I ever need to contest a ticket. It's now more of a fun thing than anything since the speed is so inaccurate.

Just my thoughts. If the new one works properly it might be worth the $250 should it ever come to proving innocence or assisting someone else somehow.

Come to think of it, I wonder what they make that dot matrix pattern on the windshield out of above my mirror. The GPS receiver is located in the black box above the camera, the bit that's bolted to the strap around the mirror. I wonder if that is screwing with the GPS at all. I don't remember what it was like when I tried it with the suction cup in a different spot and sadly I don't have those videos any more. Oh well.
