    Here's some pictures:

The cheap Transcend 16GB class 10 SD card is not included of course.

It seems that there are a bunch of similar such units, probably cheap copies of some original I have no idea what is. The unit is light and it's all plastic. Accepts 5V dc and comes with two page, two color basic configuration guide with pictures and a 17 page B&W manual.

Its very very similar to what Ive just got

One problem I'm having in my early testing is that WMP and WMC refuse to play broken .asf files. If I press the stop button, the files play okay, but if just cut the power - running on batteries and switch to dc power (disconnected), the file will be corrupted.

Upon giving back power the unit restart recording fine. I have to test now if the corrupted files play in the unit.

Anyone knows of a nice .asf player, codec, transcoder for windows 7?

Its arrived today, its unpacked, plugged into TV & working. It came with a 128Mb SD card, I took the 8Gb Micro card out my old Blackberry, placed it into a Micro to SD card adaptor but no go, Ive downloaded and upgraded the firmware in the DVR and it now boots with the 8Gb card in. Next on the list is the cameras, i'll keep you posted

    Thanks

Well I finally got the HiJackZX1 back from the shop. During the accident the rear view screen fell of the windshield, taking all the wires and cables for the DVR and interior camera with it. I thought the fuse box would be messed up too because one of the passengers flew into it, but I guess I actually did correctly on setting it up. One thing I have always hated about the DQP add on I did is that everything shows on the wrong side. I'm on the left, but the camera shows me on the right. Its the same situation for all rear facing cameras. I took the DQP out of the car, put it on my TV and reconnected the controls to the DQP (I had to remove them to get the box into my dash.) and looked in options. There is actually a feature to turn on mirror effect. I activated it, now all is good. Also since I am retiring my current car pc, which is much more powerful then my desktop, I can now do proper video encoding without the rubber band effect issue. Ill post videos some time next week! It feels so good to have my truck back!

I need some help now with the camera's, I want a good one facing forward, (very rarely drive at night, works van) and a good one inside for night surveillance (motion detection setting on DVR) and maybe a cheaper one as a reversing camera. There are so many out there I dont know where to start, I will have to get a 3 way switch but they are easily available. I do have an Iphone 3Gs, I have removed the rear view mirror (its a van, dont need it) and made a little holder, so it sits there when Im driving, today I moved it over a bit and so the camera wasnt blocked and started recording, its not bad but I would like a camera thats better than the one fitted in the Iphone, is that poss?

    Thanks All

    Thanks

Any mini camera that is CCD based will be perfect for what you want to do. For inside, because its a small space, you can go with a CCD or cheapy CMOS camera. Now seeing that you said the inside image wasnt good, then go with a CCD camera for the inside too. For my rear camera I have it set high enough in the back that I dont have to have a seperate rear camera. Its an always on system.

Only thing I have to do is 1) move the inside camera back. You cant really see the front passengers faces. 2) Setup the other PC, because this ATOM sucks.

Thanks for the info, what forward facing camera are you using, do they all have like a fish bowl effect ? I dont know if im allowed to post URL's here, ifnot please remove, Ive found these:

    http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/mini_colour_audio.htm

They look good as they can run on 8.5V to 15V ideal for automotive use BUT anyone know what the difference between the 2 are ?

These look exactly like the camera I have on the inside. Only thing is mine has added IR lights for night vision.

Looks like the difference on the ones you linked to is the lens. One is a wide angel lens, and the other is a pin hole lens.

I think its the windsheild that causes that fish bowl effect? My forward facing camera is built into the RVS-300 Blackbox system. It is very rounded at the front.

    Here is the inside camera.

I second the above about CCD cameras.

I wouldn't go with wide angle for the front forward cameras, they distort too much and they're useless trying to figure out speed and relative position of the cars.

But for the interior and for the rear, I think wide angle is a must.

The cameras you linked looks to be fine but I can't know for sure. Both appears to be wide angle lenses though, as it's said in the title "normal lens and pinhole available"; I'm assuming those are not normal, but wide angle.

Thanks for the info, the inside camera is going to be something like RipplingHurst has behind his grill, that will be fitted in the back of the van facing the rear door. The price over here for the camaras is very expensive, they want €55 for a mini cmos and €98 for a mini ccd, ive seen them on Ebay for as little as $15
