You can skip this part and go down to my question but this is my configuration so far
Like everyone else in this forum, I am putting a computer in my vehicle. I have solved my "which computer/motherboard should I get" problem with FV24 motherboard in a with Pentium III 933Mhz, 256MB ram, and 2 Maxtor 160GB HD for a total of 320GB and 4 fans and a port to my AC vent (110 degree summer ya know).
I have solved my "how do you make a clear enclosure without breaking or chipping or cracking the plexi" problem with a Lexan box 7.5"X8.5"X4.5" due to the fact that you can beat it with a hammer and it wont break.
I have solved my "which power supply should I get" problem with the 12 volt 150 watt programmable shut off timer SFX-12-15 SFX from http://www.opussolutions.info/sfx.htm.
I've solved my "which monitor should I use" problem with Xenarc 7" wide touch VGA/video monitor 700TSV from www.4spies.com for $525 shipped to my house a few hours before they jacked the price up to $580.
Heres my dilemma. I don't know squat about GPS receivers or softwares. Give you an idea, I just learned the term "lock" today.
My questions for you guys are which is the best receiver and software to use in a car computer? I've done some research and came up with the Garmin GPS16 receiver because its WAAS capable and it has a fast lock time. I'm planning on using the USB adapter and wiring the receiver to constant power so it doesn't loose its lock. I drive my truck every day anyway so I'm not worry about the receiver draining my battery. I will be running Windows XP Professional. As of now, I don't even know if the GPS16 with USB adapter will even work with XP. The FV24 has only 1 COM port and its taken by the Xenarc touch screen. I am also adding an 8 port relay control module which also uses COM port. Anyone who is using the GPS16 please leave fee backs
As for software, I'm looking for a software that gives N S E W heading, vehicle speed, voice notify turn to turn information, automatic reroute if I missed a turn, display vehicle trail during the trip, total distance traveled per trip, zoom in down to the street address, zoom out to the whole state, and most important, it must work with the Garmin GPS 16 receiver.

If you use the garmin 16 via usb, do not plan on using microsoft maps and streets/ map point because it will not work. you'd need to plug it into a 'real' serial port. There's an article on this in the MS knowledgebase.
Anyway I am using the GPS 16 + MP2002 and it works well for me...
I built a VIA Epia 5000 mini-ITX PC for my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (with the same LCD as you, except I opted to go without the touchscreen and am now struggling over what to get for a mouse).
Anyways, I just bought a Garmin GPS16 w/ USB mod and magnetic mount from NavTechGPS. It works wicked ****ah!

However, I had to downloal the latest drivers from here (because the drivers it came with caused a blue screen)

One more thing, I know you're new to the board and I'll let it slide this time. Please don't use words only you or your neighbor can understand. I mean what the hell is "wicked ****ah" If it works great then say its great. If it sucks then say it sucks.
I don't know of any software that is better than CoPilot. Spendy, but in my eyes and I think many its one of the best apps out there. ESPECIALLY for TOUCH SCREENS.
I have the copilot software and receiver. Works great.
