Thanks for the info. I'll do my best to narrow down the problem with this information but it might be a bit difficult since I'm not getting the same problems. I would assume it is something that acts differantly with the drivers but who knows.
I don't have time to do any coding this week so I'll hopefully get to it next week (I'm at work right now).

No problem! But I'm glad you said something. I went to check it on the web server today and it wasn't there. I have a pretty weak connection to the WiFi in the car and just thought for some reason it conked out while uploading.

Personally I think it would be best if there was software that we could run on our own servers. Then we could log into our server from anywhere and not have to worry about using someone elses bandwidth. I found a cool free webserver called brs webweaver. It also does ftp. I got Pearl CGI to run on it so I'm sure you can get your software to work with it too. I like to host my own stuff, it's so much more conveinent for me.

edit:after readinig a little better, I think I understand that we just download a log file from your server onto our desktop and import that into the client to give us the tracking. Is this correct? If so then scratch everything I said above about getting software to run on the server.

His software is aspx as far as I know... It wont help getting perl to run on your server....

I am going to release at some point a more simplified version of Brady's tool, which will basically be a silent car tracked, and a webview for the information...

it is currently my second priority since Googlemaps dont exist for my area and they would look sooo much better for tracking.

You can have it email you, your logs if you want, but then when you stick them into the desktop client, that will send them to the server. That was for people in the UK who can get a special phone plan. Info on it is somewhere in this thread.

All of my web stuff is written in ASP.NET. The web stuff is hosted on a professional host now. As soon as you start using 90GB a month then you can worry. Till then it doesn't matter. Right now I am supporting 3 differant client applications. If I released the server app to run on everyones servers then that just adds to the list.


EDIT: I just uploaded a new version of the client to fix a date format conflict the UKers were having. MM/DD/YYYY vs. DD/MM/YYYY. It still displays it in your native format but logs it in the format the server likes.

I apologize in advance if this was said somewhere in the last 16 pages, and this probably applies only to USA based users. But my carputer is not done yet but it will be based on mini-itx designed with a pcmcia build in slot in which I plan to install T-mobile wireless card and for $30/month have unlimited wireless use, therefore constant connection with the car, do you think this would be a good idea for this kind of an utility?

It would work 100% as far as I can tell....just the same as a bluetooth or cable connection to a regular phone, the difference being u dont actrually need to have your phone in the car for it to work...

Isn't that the point? Why would I want to leave my cell phone in my car? Security wise it's like independent source.

well, it wouldnt be that reliable a source for security... really, unless you have a REALLY stable system, REALLY hidden away it isnt useful as a security measure...

it is more useful to have other people be able to check where u are, how much you drove, etc (like boss, wife..hehehe)...

in that case your cell phone is fine...

I personally have an extra phone in the car, just cause I have an extra one, but the pc-card is probably the best if you have money to toss to get one...
