Ya, any more information would help in narrowing down the problem. One thing you could also check is the actual log file before it is uploaded. Check to see if it is actually being written to. Are you using the Map Monkey setting or GPS setting to connect to your GPS?

After reviewing and comparing both logs, I see no reason why you couldn't integrate the uploading of both together whenever I get a wireless connection. The script could check the filenames (MM uses "year"/"month"/"date .cvs" directory structure, i.e., c:\DestinatorApps\Logs\2005\May\05-28-2005_Log.cvs) against the last uploaded GPSS log and if one exists with the same date or since then upload all newer MM logs including the last GPSS upload date and reset GPSS upload date to current date. There might need to be some added code on the server to delete duplicates. But this would actually enhance the data gathered on the server because MM logs data a lot more often than GPSS. Having designed Electronic Warfare system in my last life believe me redundancy is good. We could probably get Ninja Monkey to revise the Daily Logs Plugin to accommodate GPSSecure with a better filing/filename convention as a separate option within the plugin settings.

Wait a minute why not get with NM and just change the MM plugin or create a new one to do everything from that end as an option within the plugins configuration page. He could add another screen for the username and password to the server ......NAW that would probably be asking for too much. A collaboration after GPSSecure goes public might be in order though.

As far as using less CPU by just uploading the MM logs, you can just turn of the MM logger. If you don't want the real time tracking running then just turn it off in the settings screen. If it is the case that you want to use the MM logs just because it logs more frequently, then why not just make GPSS log more frequently. I'm trying to see the advantage of using the logs from MM. I highly doubt that I could get NM to make any changes on MM as I don't think he is developing it nearly as much as before. I don't know though. I think I just need more explanation on why importing an uploading the MM logs would have any advantage over just uploading the regular logs like it currently does.

Recently, the bug I reported earlier has returned. On wake up from hibernation, I get "Com port error, RX, overrun". It isn't consistent, but it does occur.

Anyone else getting this?

Ya, those are just warning messages. I'll dump them all for version 1.0 as they aren't needed for our purposes.

I dont know how to check the log files, but I did some very specific runs this week and came to the conclusion that after the GPS Splitter loses satellite lock for more than 20 seconds, GPSSecure stops writing to the log. When the GPS resumes satellite tracking, so does GPSSecure but no more log entries get saved - looks like a timing/sync problem to me. Using the Delorme GPS and new serial driver, I've been able to recreate the malfunction several times. The GPS setting is what I use for GPSSecure since the serial splitter is so much less CPU intensive versus MM integration.

Seems David Brown may be experiencing the same problem. I'll let you two try to figure it out while I take a month to tour Europe.

Thanx for the great software, and I'll PM you when I get back. OBTW, does GPSSecure work with any European Maps? ;) ;)

Sometimes redundancy is good, others its just a waste of CPU ticks. If one system's working (MM logs), why add a whole 'nother system (GPSS) that does the same thing when all that has to be added to the first is the upload capability.

ANALOGY MODE ON:
Why add a whole second headunit in your car cause the original has a cassette and you want a CD, too.
ANALOGY MODE OFF

Also this allows users another option for how they want their system to work. Some would rather not be logging 100% of the time in the background with no ability to edit the logs before upload. Some may want to upload only specific timeframes or point to point. I personally have my RR screens set at 800x570 just so I can have my taskbar always visible, otherwise it would be difficult to get to the GPSS icon to turn it on/off or monitor since I haven't created a global hotkey to bring it to the foreground. On a side note, does the taskbar icon change to show signal status and live vs logged?

This was not meant to be threatening or pushy just an idea to give users more options.

Ok, I'll do some extensive testing on that and just hope I can reproduce the problem (should be able to). Thanks for trying to find the problem for me.
Ya, the google maps will work in the UK along with the MapQuest maps. I'm not sure what other areas if any can be shown using the MapQuest maps. I do plan on adding other maps if they are available. Point me to a web page that displays maps like MapQuest/Google for the other European contries and I'll add them in.

Valid point, but the software was created with the added feature of plugging into MapMonkey not the other way around. Therefore I want to have the built in logging to be full proof that way no matter what system you use, you can have GPSS log for you. Therefore not making this a top priority. I don't want the software to rely on one other piece of navigation software.

Good point. I'm open to any suggestions for resolving this. Perhaps when you click the icon it brings up a quick menu (touchscreen friendly) for enabling/disabling things?

Airplane Icon on Server

Can I request user selectable icons for the server maps. Watching a little blue car streaking across the map at 500 knots is weird even for me. :cool: My average speed today was 462 MPH.

And again when the GPS lost fix, GPSS stopped logging. 2D and 3D locks followed the signal loss , but GPSS only showed 2D tracking and never did start logging again. Before I closed and reopened GPSS, I even tried the disconnect/connect button several times to no avail.

Since you brought it up, can I get a detailed description of your log.txt file format? I ask because I did a long roadtrip today and once again not all of my log is showing up on the server. Luckily, you mentioned the log last night so I found it and made copies every hour along the way. Right now the last entry I can see on the server is 2:36:25, but I know the log file has another 1000 lines more. So if its not on the server, I need to know where and how to cut the log, so I can try to upload the rest again.

I also noticed today that my altimeter is metric and was wondering if this too could be user selectable as KM or Feet. I tried the display map option twice, but all I got was a white "cloud looking" box (appropriately enough since I was at 29400 ft/500kts) but this also happen on the server as well even around the corner from my house. Anyone else mentioned "whiteouts" on the TerraServer maps?

I had another PM report of this today with the same GPS receiver. I'm trying to figure out if this is just from that one GPS mouse or if it is something that happens with them all.

That is as much as I have on the server. There is one problem that I'll have fixed in V1.0 with the car client uploading large log files. I will fix this! :)

I don't know the best method of doing this. I'll probably just put a small icon that will always be on top that you can move anywhere on your screen that will bring up a menu. Maybe V1.0.

There isn't urban data for the whole USA with the TerraServer maps, thus when there is no data you will get white.
