Are you still looking for beta testers?

I'm still working on the next beta version. I have everything done except I am adding in distance information into the database. It gets kind of hairy with conversions and such but I just haven't had a lot of time (lot's of school and work). I have MapMonkey working except I am trying to get some additional information from it. As soon as I have everything completely done for the beta I'll let you know.

I just finished the second beta version. Check the main thread for more information. The MapMonkey plugin support is a bit limited compared to just using the direct GPS connect but all of the essentials are there. The other features should be added in with the next version of MapMonkey. For those that were interested I'm going to PM the information in a bit.

Should we just use the same links from before?

I'll start playing with it tomorrow. Lookin foward to seeing new changes

EDIT: One little thing with the desktop client. The "select time" box cuts off the last little bit of the calender. Just an asthetic thing, but figured i'd mention. Also, how does the Map Monkey intigration work. Is there anything needed to set up? And will the car app work then if I don't have Map Monkey running.

    Suggestion:

can we have a view that just follows the car and updates every minute? Basically it would be like getting the latest available time, and pressing Display Map...

Also, can you pull the image from mapquest into a window like the terraserver one?

Isnt it worthwhile to use googlemaps cause I think they are more flexible in terms of getting a larger maps and stuff...?

Cant wait to get my GPRS connection working again in the car to try this one out!

    First Real Use Impressions

    Hey Brady,

OK, I've used this for a few minutes in my car after finally being able to start the thing!

    First impressions follow:

    - I had trouble getting it to connect. Apparently GPSSecure doesnt attempt to connect in the same way as IE does... This poses a problem because it just wasnt updating and I didnt understand... then I clicked on DISPLAY MAP and it gave me the explorer dialing window to connect my GPRS modem, then once I manually dialed through that (just pressed "Connect button" - I also set Connect Automatically option but it appears to not have changed much), then it started sending my position.
    - I got a crash after a while... dont know what happened but the GPSSecure window froze, and I got a "(Not Responding)" appended to the title bar of GPSSecure.
    - We/I need a better way of running this thing... Can it be made to start up and go to system tray, and stay there silently until it detects mapmonkey (i.e. I will run map monkey from within RR), and then make it really try to connect to the gprs and send stuff...

Finally, this is just a more general request, can you make a web interface for GPS Desktop? That would allow us to check stuff from anywhere... Oh and please Google maps cause Mapquest (I dont know if it is all mapquest, or just mapquest.co.uk) is crap for my area... and I think google maps you can just copy the URL into your page or embed it in the program so we dont need to load a page.

    Thanks! it is very promising!

Don't worry the real time tracking with Google maps is coming In fact that is next on my list. Ya, I'll make it pull the MapQuest Image into a window.
