I have a few different HD Tuner cards (ATI HDTV wonder & ATI 650) as well as "moahdib" Pinnacle HDTV Pro USB Stick. From what I've observed, the antenna sensitivity on each differ. The Pinnacle USB will pick up more channels from a smaller/weaker antenna (ie. the small antenna that comes with it). When I try to use the same antenna on the ATI cards, they won't pick up a strong enough signal to display anything. So I think antenna/signal sensitivity is designed into the card. What might work in a desktop setting may not work well in a mobile setting. The high sensitivity of the HDTV USB probably increases the susceptability of it to pick up unwanted noise...this maynot be of a concern on small screen laptops which it is primarily designed for. Noise like this maybe unacceptable on HTPC settings which will have a significant impact on large screens.
I'm new here but thought I drop in on this one. I bought this Viore tuner from Woot. It does not have Vista drivers. The description says "Vista capable", but the drivers will not load on Vista. Others on the Woot forum are reporting the same error.
The only PC I have that had XP on it is a P4 1.5g which is just below min spec (p4 1.6g) to run it. It did work with the software included but it wouldn't be fair to be critcal of this unit on an under powered PC.
Prolly not many of you running Vista on your carpcs but wanted everyone to know the deal with this tuner.
EDIT: The tuner will work with Vista. Just a pain getting the updated driver. Media Center on Vista Premium also works but only with the digital antenna. I couldn't get my analog cable to work with MC but the supplied software worked.
windows VISTA drivers.... anyone know of any?
(PLEASE no questions about why I am running 64 bit vista in my car - PLEASE!)
In order to use the HD tv tuner you need a 3ghz system minimum. Keep this in mind. I have the HD pinnicle tuner stick and am using it on my HTPC, it is only a 2.8ghz and the tuner really bogs it down. If I were you, dont plan on anything to spectacular as far as TV goes for your carpc.
Really? I can't imagine it bogging down my 2.0GHz duo core 2 T7200 processor with 2GB ram etc.... I'd be really surprised if it couldn't play off air HDTV smoothly.... BUT, I would really love to find out, but it is looking like I never going to get working drivers for the damn thing anyways...
Instead, just install the tuner with the drivers but use this http://watchhdtv.net/default.aspx
as your software which works MUCH nicely. You will need some kind of mpeg2 decoder installed. I recommend Nvidia's mpeg2 decoder. From my testing, this used the least cpu time.
