I am currently trying this out. I bought a wintv usb950 hdtv tuner. It works great in the home, with a normal antenna. When Install it in the carpc, the program works great but the reception is not that good. I am trying to use the factory powered bmw antenna in the rear window. I made an adapter to plug intot the factory to the usb tuner. Then I am powering up the antenna power with a switched source. It seems that when I power the factory antenna the reception gets worse... If I slightly unplug the antenna from the usb tuner so the ground is removed(shield) the reception is better with it powered. But still not that good.

I was wondering if anyone might know why this is happening, For right now I got a stick-on powered type antenna that works okish but looks like poop. I am hoping to get the factor on to work.
    Thanks for any help
    Brian

Just wanted to clarify (I hate seeing this spread around incorrectly). The 2009 switch to digital has absolutely nothing to do with HD. It doesn't mean everything will become HD. It doesn't mean your TVs will cease to work. All it means is that the frequency range currently being eaten up by old, analog, over the air broadcasts is being converted to a digital format. The only people affected are people who currently recieve their TV programming via a non-digital TV connected to an antenna. Anyone using cable or satellite is unaffected.

So you cannot watch HDTV while in motion because of the software/legal issues?

Or is it you cannot watch HDTV while in motion because the antenna does not work and you get fuzz?

I would bet a little of both....
I know HDTV OTA is pretty touchy when it comes to signal lock on, as I use it at home on my living room TV... I can imagine being stopped in the car will give best results.

I can't speak about the laws, but I would also guess it violates some law if you can see the moving pictures while you are driving...

Atleast in California you can have any video in front or in view of the driver. You can have video while the car is moving. The way signals are set up for HDTV, you can't watch HDTV while the car is in motion. If you are going ~2MPH you can still get signal, anything higher won't work. I'm sure engineers can come with a solution to get HDTV while the car is moving if they wanted to.

Looking to install mine, once I revert my OS from 64 bit Vista to 32 bit Vista... I can't find much tech info on this card unfortunately, but I at least think I found drivers for vista a while ago. I did try to install this card into my laptop in the meantime, but I couldn't find a suitable mounting jack port for the antenna jack, so I gave up before completing the install.

Got mine running outside of RR. . Do you have a skin that you're using this tuner with inside RR? Would you mind sharing?

just a small update, if you do a google search for dvb-t antennas there will be a ton of car hdtv antennas, but they are all in the uk and such. Alpine makes a hd tuner for the car but of course its only a over seas part.
I emailed a couple of online sellers in the uk, but as always they never email back.
Maybe one of the uk members could hunt down a antenna from over there...

There is no in-motion blocking. I can get some what of a signal on the freeway of and on.
I am still searching for the right antenna. I am sure we will se alot more coming out when they make the change from analog to digital. If not there will be alot of RV and van people very up set.
