Anything is possible, but not feasible.
Go HD Radio instead.
Is there any possible way, to possibly turn a head unit into a usb fm tuner maybe even tap into the amp??? I know very little about chips/components and programming but i was just wondering if anyone has done this........i searched somewhat so dont flame me to bad.....thanks
no good.....theres only one station for hd around here.....some classical station. any one else know n e thing about hu as usb tuner and maybe amp?
n e one ?
I agree go with the HD radio, they are plentiful, inexpensive, and have concert quality sound. The engineering has already been done by mitchjs and he sells the serial / usb cable to control it.
If you really want to accomplish you idea however:
You could create a USB interface to control a headunit tuner but this would require an extensive amount of reverse engineering, circuit design, PCB development not to mention the software to control the Frankenstein unit.
The only other way I could think of is if the headunit has a remote IR, you could send commands to it that way with an IR transmitter hooked to the PC.
The HD radio is relatively new, within the last few months. I am not sure if Centrafuse can control it but I know for a fact RR does
I also owned a HQCT and it was expensive. It worked although the sound was no where near the HD unit and the HQCT was really "bassy" and just never sounded that clear to me.
The HQCT made a great carPC tuner, as in , you needed a pc to use it at all.
The HD unit is a stand alone tuner that even has its own faceplate. Mitch's cable just replaces the faceplate by using the interface port via serial connection.
I dont know how i ever over looked this. I'm sold. just need to find out about how to get it working with centrafuse.
