    tweeters made into a boombox

    Hey all,

I have just installed some new splits into my car, which means I have taken the stock ones out. I have some tweeters and woofers, and I was thinking of usuing the tweeters tomake some portable speakers out of. I was thinking of making a little box for them, and then wiring a stereo jack so that I can plug them into the headphone jack of anthing and they'll play sound. The only thing is, will I need some sort of amplifying circuit to make the tweeters run? If so, how can I go about making one (that isn't too expensive, and as basic as possible).

If it helps, the tweeters came out of a VX Commodore Lumina (if you guys know what kinda car that is?), and the tweeters are approx 5 cm in diameter (or 2 inches).

You might ask why I wanna do this. The answer is, because I can , well actually I can't just yet, but once I get some info from people, then I will be able too haha :P.

    Thanks

Using just a tweeter is going to sound pretty bad. But if you still want to go for it, here is a good site I use to find circuits (search for audio amp):

I made a reallll boom box, that has 2x 12" subwoofers, a 4-chan amp, and a oddessey battery in a custom fab MDF box that we took around everywhere, from BBQ's, camping, parties.. :P

2x 6x9" speakers plugged into the back and were on 10m long leads.

I'll try find some on the weekend, the amp melted (well, started smoking so I turned it off, opened it up later to find a bulk of the mosfets had been destroyed) at the end of 2006, and since I haven't had the need to use it much recently I haven't bothered to fix it up, so it sits in the garage gathering dust. During it's 'prime' however it was pretty cool, I soldered SMD led's to the inside of the grills protecting the subs and hooked them up to the amp, so they went to the beat of the music. I have a few pics of that too which i'll dig up and post later on.

Yeah rowan if you could post a few pics of how you did the SMD LED's, I am looking at doing something like this inside my car, and am looking for examples to work off of . Thanks.
