T1 is the TIME frame of the circuit. If you want a 10 to 11 sec delay then you need a CAPACITOR (C) of 100 micro farad and a RESISTOR (Ra) of 100k. The other capacitor stays at 0.01 micro farad. If you apply power to the circuit (+ -), the output of the 555 pin number 3 is off untill T1 expires, then the output turns on and stays on untill you remove power (+ -)

    Hi :-)

    Thanks again for the help

What "other capacitor stays at 0.01 micro farad" ?

and what do you mean by "the output of the 555 pin number 3 is off untill T1 expires" . I don't know what a T1 is...lol?

I've managed to find some 100uf caps on an old motherboard but the only resistors I have are 150uf Will these make much of a difference?

Also can someone please help me with the things I have marked out in the pic.

Thanks again everyone I really appreciate the help ;-)

If you don't understand the instructions or what component is what, you better off not building any circuits.

Sorry mate I didn't mean to ignore you :-(

I think using an old prepay mobile phone is the better route as it can also be traced and can be easily hidden in the car ;-)

After a bit more reading I think I know what im doing but can someone please look at my new edited diagram (attached) and let me know if everything is correct

If everything is correct I only have two more questions.

    1. Can the 0.01uf capacitor be substituted as im having a hard time finding them?

    2. Does the voltage on the capacitors make a big difference as some are 16v and others are 25v...etc?

Again thanks for all the help your giving me

You should not need a diode to make a simple timer...

If you're still confused, google for asynchronous 555 timer or something. If you want a timer that keeps going constantly, google free running 555 or something along those lines...

I think you mean astable 555, but still, he's using it as monostable circuit - not a timer that keeps going constantly.

I haven't examined the circuit but I'm going to guess the diode is necessary (or at least recommended) otherwise it wouldn't be there.
