I guess this would only be interesting for those of you owning a BMW E36 with the full OBC (18 buttons).
Anyway - wouldnt it be cool to "tap in" to the data that the OBC displays? The info available; Outside temperature, fuel consumption, speed and diagnosis codes.
I have lots of ideas for this (ofc), but not alot of electronic knowledge :/
Anyhow, this is the information I have gathered;
Pinouts;
Plug 1 (X1070):
1 - Brake light switch
2 - Brake light switch
3 - Check control module
4 - Check control module
5 - Check control module
6 - Instrumentcluster (CHECK light)
7 - Check control module
8 - Starter
9 - Power, F23 5A
10 - Gong
11 - Gong
12 -
13 - Speedometer, X188
14 - Power, F45 7.5A
15 - SMG, Instrumentcluster
16 - Light switch (6300.0)
17 - GND
18 - Power, F31 5A
Harness 2 (X1071):
1 - EWS, Immobiliser control unit (CODE)
4 - Turn indicator/low beam selector
5 - Diag, TXD
6 - Fuel consumption
7 - Diag, RXD
8 - Power, F31 5A
9 - Instrumentcluster, speedometer
13 - GND
14 - Independent ventilation relay
And the info i could find from the Check control module;
- Left headlight
- Right headlight
- Wash water level
- Cooland level
- Light switch
- Left tail light
- Right tail light
- Brake light switch
- Brake light
So, alot of data available here. How to best gather it..?![]()
Be interested to see what you've got.
It is currently on a prototype breadboard but is working very well. It is connected to some of the pins on the black OBC connector and connects to the PC via USB/FTDI serial interface. Every 30 seconds it transmits the outside temp. The check control status is transmitted every time its state changes. I'll post some pictures of the Centrafuse plugin once I clean it up a bit.
Any luck on the consumption, range displays etc?
Or actually sending data to the display, ie for song names etc.
