Proximity sensing, automatic door unlocking!
Hey, I don't think this has been mentioned, but I noticed this the other day. It's only 4 days old as of now, and a GREAT idea!
Basically, using a NIKE+IPOD device, you hook the iPod receiver into a serial board and hook it up to your computer (or microcontroller!) and detect when new nike tags are within range.
Apparently, it works from like 25 feet away, uses very low power, and lasts a very long time. They're also cheap on eBay!
I'm going to use this device (when I get money) and build a PCB with an iPod connector, a USB connector, a microcontroller, and some output headers such that when a tag is within range for X amount of time, it outputs high on some of the pins. This device is really low power and does not require a computer. Using USB though, you can tell it which keys to recognize!
What do you guys think?
