FYI, I should be receiving my first hardware piece tomorrow (assembled and ready to test). Upon me testing it the first batch will be kicked into production and should be here in 2-3 weeks. I just hope I designed tomorrows test unit correctly and that it works (and fits into the case I have planned). Fingers crossed.

I am glad someone else has picked up this project and run with it. I would very much like this type of integration with the V1. However, I would like to encourage you to release the source code for the software. There have been other projects like this and when the devs get tired of it they move on taking their code with them to leave those who invested the time and money in the project high and dry. I've tried contacting those people to get the code only to be ignored. I've had this happen several times and it makes me reluctant to purchase hardware when the software is controlled by one person. I understand the need to protect your investment and time. Having the software open source, however, does take the burden of support off your shoulders. Besides, if I read correctly, your hardware is microcontroller based and thus needs firmware. So your software is useless without your hardware anyways.

I hope someone will develop RR support for this as well.

Currently I don't see the need release the source code for my software package. The software is not what I am selling, the hardware is. So it would not hurt me by releasing the source code, but I have already published the protocol and that is all anyone needs to develop their own software. So I may release the code as a reference, I may not.

As for the firmware code, I will not be releasing this or the schematic for my hardware. How can I when I am trying to sell this product? If the day comes when I no longer support this, well who knows. I guess its like anything you buy right. The company could always cease and leave you high and dry. I can say that I have no plans on bailing though. I have found a manufacturer that is building and assembling this hardware. So the work from my end to get new batches of hardware is simply an email and a payment. As these sell I will send off for a new batch to keep my stock up.

Good news on the hardware. Received the first one today and it passed its initial testing. There appears to be no problems with the hardware. That means I will pass the ok on to the manufacturer in the next day and I should receive the first batch of 25 in the next 2-3 weeks.

You're right, you'd be silly to release the schematic and the firmware. I was talking more about the software side. If you decide to abandon the project, then those that have the hardware would have the source to continue development and/or bug fixes to continue using the hardware you built.

With that said, I'll be the first in line to buy one of these once everything is working.

Just wanted to let you all know I hope to be starting to sell these very shortly. I am expecting the 25 units to be delivered today. The enclosures and other parts are being delivered by weekend and I will be assembling and testing all 25 in the next week. Before I sell any to people though I will be testing it for a few days of continuous use in my car, as well as providing one or two to some people to test. I want to ensure it is a solid device before selling it to the mass of people.

The website has also been updated to include screenshots of the latest software version.

Is possible build some V1 simulator that can developers test and make plugins? Like one board which simulate all V1 functions?
