Just goes to show the difference between batches, I had a real close look at mine under a Desk magnifier before I fired it up, everything was well put together. The silicon sealer is supposed to stop lead breakage from vibration fatigue in the larger components, looks like that was also a token effort in these cases. Should have no trouble soldering them back on, but you should not have to do this to a new unit.

Mine works well with my Windows laptop using the standalone app, and on my Linux PC with custom software. But it won't work at all on my Linux Netbook, which is the machine I'm going to put in the car. It detects it fine, but it just doesn't respond to any commands. Could it be the netbook is not providing enough power? I've bumped up the power to 300mA using the FTDI tool in accordance with the instructions, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

im at a loss why there is even silicon one those small caps, way too small, if soldered right to fall off
    -Thanks

I suspect because on the older board, it was the caps not being soldered properly or coming off in transport that caused the over voltage on USB ports problem.

no, i dont think so, i got an idea why.... not sure i should disclose...well... what the hell

the boards he got made, all came back from china, with those 3 caps soldered in backwards
my guess is he personally swapped the caps around, which is fine, but his solder skills aren't so good
and prob didn't use the right method to do it, and assure complete solder bond underneath the caps
and they prob felt loose, so he put some silicon on them, which would be OK, unnecessary but OK, but the failure
    is the soldering...
    -Thanks

If you are talking about the old board, it was those too large caps value that are causing the problems. On pluging in, a massive current drain is placed on the USB port and cause a not recognised device. In the worst case it would blow the USB fuse or possibly damage something else.

Those caps are not meant to be there. External power is what you need if you want reliability, even more so for the V5 modules.

I also do think those silicone were added on later. I doubt the factory in china would bother with all that, those caps are way too small and light to need extra support. You are correct, it look like those caps have been played with, too much solder on those pads, that amount is not the norm unless it was done manually.

What I dont understand is why was the final PCB design sent off to china with the caps facing the wrong way. Unless it was the factory who were at fault here.

Anyway all these talk is definately not needed for a production products.

Welcome back to the forum Chris31 aka Ricky (this is the person who built the original radio), he just had multiple usernames to confuse people.

I've been away for a while but I've been working on a Gyro DAB radio, this comes ready made with Slave firmware and is good for DAB/DAB+/FM/TDMB. I'm having a few issues with the power regulation again but nonetheless getting somewhere.

The DAB works quite well here in Canada. The FM not so well.

Not here to confuse people, I dont want people to think of me differently because Im Chris31.

Saying that, you are the one who has the habit of spreading wrong information for personal gain. So are you going to share your work this time? My work was to help people over at DC, let see if you are going to post your schematic, software as well as help people build it. You up for it or all of your work is just for profit.

I look forward in seeing your schematic and download link for source code Sanjay, so are you going to help me build one like the way I helped you and the others over at DC?

You seems upset because I mentioned the big caps to E which blew the USB ports on his laptop. Do you really want that happening again?

I though this beef is over but whatever, dont talk smack about me and Ill leave you alone.

Attached is the schematic for the compact unit that I built, this was the last one.

This is quite different to the original, the caps will not exceed 500mA on your usb ports.

Unlike the design that mitch has with the audio driver, this one does not.
