I was surprised that Verona has no shield also, despite the board being marked out for it!
How are you establishing the software versions, is it a key combination? Apologies if this has been mentioned of the thread before, it is very long! :eek:

Between your posts and the siliconchip schematics I got a good pinout of the modules.
Do you mean that in master mode all the I/O are reused for the user interface ?
The GPIO function are configurable by the firmware so some pins might be used for something like keypad, LCD, amplifier mute line, display dim control etc etc. In our case we are only interested in the pinout of the module in serial control mode.Quote:

These experiments were performed to see what I could get from the module and how to reuse it later maybe. Everything is wired in the air. For a real project I recommend to etch a small board, more reliable.
The first step is to reprogram the module with a sermmi firmware. The flash is a AT45DB041D. There are plenty of commercial programmers on the market or you can build one yourself. ibf suggests http://dybkowski.net/content/en/node/15 Remember to keep the RESET pin low. You need to erase before re-programming the Flash memory.
To test quickly the serial communication, I connected the TX and RX pins to a FT232 USB bridge. Open a terminal at 115200 bauds and you can quickly check the effect of the commands and the display update.
On Verona module you have no pins for I2S signals. But you can pick them, from the DAC (the smallest cheap aboard, check the resistors nearby).

Just to make it clear before someone get confused, the RESET of the module is held low so the module does not try to boot up.
But on the programmer side as mentioned :
WARNING: In case of programming Atmel DataFlash memories, RESET signal defined in pinout must be connected with ChipSelect (/CS) line of the chip.

By shorting pads inside the venice7 module, I2S signals can be connected back to the following pins:
pin 24: AUD_MCLK 256xFs 12.288Mhz (pin 4 MCLK)
pin 25: AUD_SFR Fs 48Khz (pin 3 LRCK)
pin 26: AUD_SCLK 64xFs 3.072Mhz (pin 2 SCLK)
pin 27: AUD_SDOUTO (pin 1 SDIN)
