Thread: FM/DAB digital radio - THAT WORKS!!

Thanks for suggestions but I like a lot of people have a MB with only 3X Rear Panel connectors and they are devoted to just speaker outputs (ie 5:1) and leaving the only other two audio-in connectors being the front panel connector and CD in. However front panel is set aside for a microphone which leaves the CD in as the only free audio in. it is also not used in 99.9% of systems. This is probably why HQCT uses CD in.

As I don't have one of these units any chance someone could try CD in before I buy???

Hi Craig, I get the following error message when trying to run radio.exe for the standalone:

"The application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

I installed the 2.06.02 drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm, set the com port latency to 1, installed vcredist_x86.exe and tried to run the radio.exe (380k) then got the error.

Got the same error (more or less) on my lappy (xp) and desktop (windows 7). Have done the uninstall and re-install of vcredist_x86.exe with restarts and no go.

Thoughts?

A build hopefully in the next few days will fix this, soyfish. http://www.craigbrass.net/radio.zip will work for now.

@cockie55: Would one of Mitch' USB Line In device or another external soundcard not work if CD In doesn't?

Thanks for the quick feedback Craig, it does.

Can get FM pretty good on the desktop with a basic wire antenna. It wont pick up FM stations on the scan, but will give good signal if I scroll up to them manually. Also, no FM text, not sure if that is because of where I am though.

No DAB+ at the moment, but that is to be expected. Where I am there is only DAB+ tests going on, so its limited stations on about half Tx strength. Despite being the capital of the nation, Canberra is considered a "regional center" :S

Look forward to getting the CF plugin and it all settled in my car to report on the antenna.

Well I dont now if what kind of audio setup you are using (5:1?) but these can often be changed to what ever output/input you like with the program from audio manufactuer. For example I have D945GCLF2 from Intel and there I can decide if I want for example 5:1 or 4:Mic in or 2: Micin/Lineout ( hope that you can understand this

My self is not using the audio option on the motherboard but instead I use Soundblaster Live External and I have disabled the audio part of the motherboard in the bios menu but I have tried the onboard option and that is why I know this.

Interesting that the scan doesn't work if you get good signal and same for FM text (unless it isn't being broadcast). You may find it works when you use an aerial in your car.

It is also a Windows test program for the module.

Hi Kev,

No not yet, I will have a go of that soon and see how it works. As a side note, I will probably be getting some bits and pieces soon to make a box for it, will post some pictures when done.

How is yours coming along? Any changes in luck with the reception? Are you sort of waiting to see what happens with my antenna before deciding on what to do with your setup?
