Toggle through the display and you'll see it 'signal error'. Generally it stays low but on my daily commute it hits 13 or 14 very briefly. You wouldn't know it though, there's no discernable difference in audio.

What are everyone's thoughts on sound quality? There's no doubt that it is clear and crisp but I find it has a significant lack of bass. I don't know if that is related to the fact that it is connected via line in, or maybe because of my sound card.

Have changed the line out capacitors to 220uF, it seems to have more bass now. It is connected to the line in of a car radio.
Would like to connect an additional DAC (Wolfson), but the firmware has not enabled the I2S output (I have heard).

the bit rate on dab is worse than FM. Provided you have good reception on both FM will sound better. Frontier Silicon recommend 1uF - 10uF on the audio, I would have thought 220uF might dampen the noise and even distort it.
The epitome of Function over form and is probably the best Car PC in Europe.

The bit rate on DAB is 192 kBit/s on some channels, thats not bad !
With my old Radioscape module (RIP) the sound was wonderful (with the mentioned Wolfson DAC). I do not say that the sound is bad with the Venice, but it has a reason they have designed a I2S interface for an external DAC.
I think the sound depends also on the line in input resistance and the level needed.
If someone has a low level line in, the sound might be better.

    220uf it too big...

1uf - 10uf is typical on any audio output,
    i have seen some 33uf
but never anything that big, it will affect sound quality
    -Thanks

    Hello everyone,
For Windows XP, the plugin does not work without net framework 3.5, installed it and it works under cf3.1

Only reason I ask is that I want to try a new version to see if I can get it to work in CF. Who knows, recombobulated files might make a difference. If it is going to be a way off then I will try upgrading to windows7 on the carPC so I can get the puter back in the car and give some results back to the readers with my antenna.

Speaking of which gents, where do I find the signal / packet loss stats that people want to know about?

Its the old-school inefficient codec used by DAB that is the issue. DAB uses the MP2 audio codec. Subjectively, a 192K DAB stream will be similar quality wise to a ~96K MP3 stream or a 64K AAC stream. Alot of the stuff in the UK is now at 128K or below which is simply not enough for MP2 to offer even 'FM Quality' audio

DAB+ allows the use of the AAC+ codec (among others) and should offer superior quality while using less bandwidth. We should eventually get DAB+ in the UK - and at least the V7 on these modules is DAB+ ready.
