All you need to do is design a carrier board and create a plugin and you are pretty much set.
If that's all that needs doing, should be easy !!!!

The good thing though Andy is that from what I can see, the venice 7 looks to be completely unlocked, so it could be driven from a PIC, or from a direct hook through USB, similar to what is currently being done by craigbass etc.

But the upshot being, you wouldn't have to do any audio processing, just feed the spdif signal back either via a separate line, or through the USB yes?

Not exactly, you need to communicate to the Venice module via a serial interface; therefore the daughter board needs to have some sort of serial device on it, hence a USB interface.

The audio outputs are a little low but they will feed almost directly into the line-in of a PC.

The main problem is that the Venice needs 3.3V and ~1.6V to power it, this is the main job of the daughter board.

The issue of audio processing is the road CraigBass chose to go down in implementing the Centrafuse plugin. Other reputable plugin writers don't use this method

When you say "unlocked" do you mean that it outputs digital audio? If this is the case, all it will mean is that you would select SPDIF input rather than the Line-In.

How many CarPCs actually have an SPDIF input anyway, I know mine doesn't.

Hmm, i'm a bit tempted to start selling them, can't make up my mind yet. One thing is for sure its not going to be with master firmware. And have not even figured the costs yet. And i might even do in batches, ie people sign up and when i get 10 orders i will do em.. or something like it to minimize my risk of sitting back with a loss. But it will include a case and be pro made. Usb audio etc are possible but that will cost extra, and not sure if people are relly up for that..

Well just my thougths for now

Mine does not either, but then most boards are a crappy 3 jack onboard and you might end up getting a usb soundcard that has the both optical in and out.

If i where to design a holding board i would design the pcb so that the usb audio etc are just a matter of soldering extra components on along with connectors

Perfect scenario would be V7, with slave FW, audio over USB.............running in RR of course. ;o)

    agreed,

But the pcb has more or less to be universal so that users just opt for features and the extra components are soldered in.

Audio over usb is a bit pricy, cant remember the extra cost, so the board has to be made so it can be left out if people are not up to paying that extra

Same goes for stuff like optical out...

Maybe drop line out if people choose audio over usb (if they do not choose specific to have both)..

    just thoughts for now

what about offering upgrade services to those who allready got one from CB? ie flashing slave FW on them, or selling the powerboard on its own for those able to change the venice chip over... just a few more thoughts
