If this can be used and attached to a daughterboard to drive power etc, wouldnt that be a lot cheaper?

My board has SPDIF Optical and normal line in along with onboard CDROM audio connector as my previous Carpc MB didnt so this one has the lot, yet to add this into my sig but this time I went quad core too
Lets hope jaycar end up stocking them, will go out and grab one as soon as it's released, at least this will not break the bank I hope, but way too big for the car in it's current SC offering :mod:

Thats not the kit Boelle, just a regular DAB+ radio like you would normally pick up on the high street.

The Jaycar kit is supposed to be under cat number KC5491, which currently doesn't bring up a result.

And if that is $199 for the radio fully made, then the kit should be a fair bit less, so I'm pretty confident.

It clearly state that they are using the module in slave mode. The DsPIC is used to control the slave module. All you need to do is design a carrier board and create a plugin and you are pretty much set.

I don't think this is exactly true.
Have you read the entire first page ?
They have the DsPIC as the interface between the IR control, LCD display board, manual pushbuttons and rotary encoder.

Someone will still have to reverse-engineer the comms between the DsPIC and the Venice7 slave firmware to workout how to control it from a plugin and display the text and other available information. Not impossible but much more work than you think I expect.

Do we have some that are VERY good with serial protocols and checksums?

Maybe its worth checking with the guys who were trying to reverse engineer the alpine comms? :)

Still haven't heard back from Jaycar, I'm going to give them a call this morning and see what I can find out.

Yes, you will have to know how to control the venice 7 in order to write your own plugin. This is either done by getting hold of the documentation or reverse engineer it. It has been done on the venice 5 before, so someone will just have to do it for the venice 7 this time round.

Are you working on the venice 7 protocol already?

If they have done it for the Venice 5, then it shouldnt be too hard for the Venice 7 would it? Frontier Silicon tout it as a straight drop in replacement for the Venice 5, which I know would mean that SOME of the code would be different (for new features etc), but I would think the main controlling functions would still be the same?

Although I am not a software engineer by any stretch!!! :P
