I have an account with the wholesale company who supplies Jaycar.
If you can find out the Jaycar part# I will speak to the sales rep about pricing?

I will wait and see what the kit comes out looking like, and find out about prices again then. It's possible we might be able to get a few by going the whole "I broke my Venice 7, can I get a replacement part please? Oops, broke another one, can I get another replacement one too?" route
Well I went out and bought the Silcon Chip magazine and WOW, it's also got a GPS/Carpc navman project for the boat, woot woot!!

Also the parts are sold by Alltronic, so maybe, just maybe they will make a deal but in the end the Venice comes from Frontier

I'm going to order one and hope that it comes before xmas

Are you just wanting to get a Venice 7 with slave FW? There's cheaper ways of getting one than buying that kit.

Well, we are keeping our options open Wolvers, at least if there are a few ways of getting hold of the modules, we might get more options as to what we do with this project.

There would definitely be cheaper options than buying the kit, especially when you would be throwing out a good portion of it! But if they offer the kit, then there might be some options for getting hold of just the venice 7 on its own.

As others have said, places like Alltronic might have them available as well, but the more people who are stocking these things, the better off we will be.

Frontier Silicon are not going to allow Alltronic to sell V7 modules on their own, I just can't see it.

You are probably correct, however, if all it takes is a few emails or phone calls, whats the problem here?

We don't solve things by being negative, and just assuming that we wont be able to get hold of the v7 from somewhere else means we close off a whole avenue of investigation.

That is correct. Frontier Silicon only allow 2 companies to resell the modules on their own and won't allow any more. Also, these two companies will only deal in orders around 2,000 with a $25k charge for the slave firmware.

We have managed to emulate the master firmware to a level where it works just as well - check out our latest Centrafuse plugin to see. Standalone will be updated shortly with skin and latest features from CF plugin.

You can alway get the venice 7 from a cheap radio. Its yours, there is nothing to stop you from flashing it with the proper slave firmware. Same idea from the original venice 5 project. Because business love to discourage those who want to built their own radio for obvious reason.

While it is possible, include in your costings the fact that you will have to build a flasher board yourself and the fact that there isn't a Venice 7 slave CF plugin or even standalone software available.
