Well, I thought I was doing good for today, but my hard drive has apparently chosen today to start dying. I couldn't even get into Vista safe mode...running chkdsk from Windows 7 safe mode now.
My files all seem to be there, but this will delay me for a bit. Hopefully I'm up and running again by tomorrow. Maybe in the meantime I'll see if I can do any development in Windows XP.
*edit* Finally back up. The hard disk seems okay, but I backed up things just to be sure. I hope to get more driver work done tonight. My goals are to fix a BSOD problem/find a workaround, and to implement a data flow mechanism that should allow more (ideally nearly all) of my original test program to work. :)
Any updates GAF? Also, to comment on the practical applications of the feature if it were to be implemented, it could literally change the way we use our computers. Although the keyboard and mouse are perfectly good traditional methods, this mod could mean that we can browse / chat / work with the comfort of being able to lean back and relax in our chairs, or even lounge on the couch. The ergonomics behind the idea are very good, with all the needed keys (given proper software is used for mapping the controller) right under your thumbs. This could also mean if we watch movies / TV shows via plugging in our laptop to a large TV, we would no longer have to get up every 5 minutes to turn up / down the volume, or switch to the next episode, pause, etc. To me, this wouldn't be just a cool little silly add on to show off to my friends, it would really change the way I use my computer. I really hope that one day someone comes up with the driver. As soon as I get the money, I'll donate as much as I can to the pot.
Thanks PhnX. I'd say you can save your money on this particular pot, but I appreciate the thought. :) I have worked late into the night tonight and done a workaround for the bluescreen issue I was seeing. I didn't finish either of the two communication methods for my driver that I needed, but I hope to be able to do them tomorrow night. Of course any updates I give mean there's more likelihood that my competition may post something before me. :P
If there's good news tomorrow night I shall post at least a tidbit though!
It's 1 a.m. but I got the first of the two communication methods I needed working, bidirectionally, and that let me implement more of my test program with the actual driver. Next I need to finish the second communication method. Real life work is too busy! :shiver:

You're a champ Blizzard. Get a good night's rest and keep at it ;) We're rooting for you!
I'v been googling on and off for about 6 months looking for chatpad drivers, just to see if anything else had popped up on the scene. After seeing this thread, I decided to register here (Hence this being my first post). I don't own a chatpad, but as soon as drivers are made available im determined to buy one, will be absolutely amazing for me as i'm a laptop gamer (Used to desktop game, like me LAN parties though!). I'm a lazy ****** and would love to be able to game (Not FPS, more like MMO) with a 360 controller and chatpad (Anywhere, which is why the XNA ordeal isnt the best solution for me).
Long story short, good luck everyone with these drivers, I (and many others) am rooting for you, I look forward to a release and may be adding some money to the kitty.
Many thanks, Wazza.
PS: Good Luck GAFBlizzard, take it easy and i'm sure you'll pull through it.
No update last night -- I worked late, cleaned up code, started on an installer program for the driver, got things to a state where I had the USB data structures set up for the second communication method...and then when I did my first send, I blue screen'd myself (I think I'm up to 5-6 so far in this development effort, in Vista? :P). That's always a good signal that it's bedtime.
Tomorrow is a SUPER early morning for me, but if I have time tonight I'll try to look at the dump and figure out what I'm doing wrong trying to write to a pipe. Then ideally tomorrow afternoon/evening I will get the pipes actually working.
keep up the good work, cant wait so i can have a keyboard, Virtual sucks and this cheap $5 gameshark pad is uglly.
