It's way past my bedtime and I have a part day of work ahead of me, plus packing to fly home where I probably won't be able to do much development. I am still trying to upload a very rough alpha, however, so any brave souls who want to try it can see if they find blatant bugs I might be able to easily fix.

Here is the guide I am actively editing for the install etc. process. I will update it with more information and then upload the binaries (perhaps tomorrow since it's so late).

The binaries are now up for Windows Vista 64-bit only, and maaaaybe Windows 7 64-bit as well.

    Getting Started guide: http://code.google.com/p/chatpad-sup...GettingStarted
Overall page, including GettingStarted link and download link: http://code.google.com/p/chatpad-super-driver/

DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH DEVICE MANAGER, WINDOWS DRIVERS, AND THE WINDOWS COMMAND LINE. This is an extremely simple release because I wanted to give people the chance to try it today while I'm at work. I hope to upload the source code after work as well as binaries for other OS variants.

If any brave soul tries it with Vista 64 or 7 64, please let me know what happens. I totally understand if you're hesitant to try unsigned kernel drivers when I have not yet uploaded the source, however. :P See you all tomorrow.

Hey Blizzard. I've been following closely here.

I'm going to go ahead and install this after I disable the driver enforcement. I'm currently running Windows 7 x64. I'll be posting my impressions and whatnot over at NeoGAF since it's easier for me to post there.

Thanks so much for all the effort you've put into this. Have an awesome holiday!

looks like its gonna be a great Christmas
welp, i tested it out on an old pos laptop...and i think i Fd up, forgot to run as admin first time installing... ran the uninstaller, uninstalled all the mentioned devices then ran it again.
Ran the control exe in cmd promt, and this is what i get:

    *****
Chatpad control utility version 0.1a started.
    *****
    Opening chatpad filter driver.
    Successfully opened chatpad filter driver.
Successfully connected to XBox 360 controller.
Opening connection to virtual keyboard device.
Successfully opened connection to virtual keyboard device.
Successfully connected to the virtual keyboard device.
Opening connection to virtual mouse device.
Successfully opened connection to virtual mouse device.
Successfully connected to the virtual mouse device.
Microsoft initialization is not finished, or detection has failed: 997
Please contact GAFBlizzard to find a solution to this problem.
    Error initializing chatpad.
    IOCTL failed, lastError == 1359
Closing connection to virtual keyboard device.
Closing connection to virtual mouse device.
    Closing chatpad filter driver.
Done. The exit status is -1.

So far this looks really promising, im excited . Maybe sum1 that is better at following directions then myself can give it a fair test run lol. Ive tried it a few times already, not sure what i did. Ill just wait for further updates
Thanks for all ur hard work GAFBlizz <3

It looks like all the drivers installed perfectly which is a good sign! Angelo didn't have success with Windows 7 64-bit but that doesn't surprise me too much since the device driver kit has a bunch of different configurations and I only had the Vista one built.

Are you using a "Made for Windows" wired controller, or is your controller one from an actual 360 console? The "detection" is something that I was hoping would work, but I may have to just take it out since different configurations could have different results. What it does is tries to detect that the actual Microsoft driver has stopped sending setup commands to the controller, so we can start doing stuff ourselves, with the chatpad. This shouldn't be a big deal anyway if I took the code out, as long as people just waited like 5-10 seconds after plugging in their controller before they launch the control utility.

There are two workarounds that MIGHT help. One, try unplugging the controller and plugging it back in while in Windows (with the control utility stopped). The run the control utility again and see if it works. If that doesn't help, unplug the controller and run the uninstall (and manually delete the virtual keyboard/mouse devices since I don't have that code in yet...see the Troubleshooting section). Then, try getting the latest official Microsoft 360 controller driver (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/do...ategory=gaming) and install that. Make sure the controller shows up in device manager with no problems, and then try running the install again.

I should have it fixed later today, regardless.

*edit* Looks like from Angelo's report that Windows 7 support is a no-go with this build. I'll try to make the proper Windows 7 64-bit builds in 3-4 hours and get them uploaded for testing if anyone is around.
