Thread: CONTEST: Xbox Chatpad Driver Challenge

I've been really enjoying my new chatpad! I was wondering, is there any way to toggle leaving the backlight on because sometimes I use it at night (with no lights) and I'd like to keep it on permanently during those times. Right now I just double press the green button to turn it on (just so I don't have to backspace anything). If not that's alright anyway

Thanks to my friend at Microsoft, Parag Garg we now have two of everything on the list below getting donated to the hospital as part of Child's Play. Most of this stuff was bought at 1/2 off retail rates, almost quadrupling the original donation! The kids are going to love this. We'll try to do a quick video when we drop it off.

Just wanted to voice my appreciation for this driver. Besides the crashes (when controller is unplugged) it works great. I'm on Win 7x64 for some reason I had to use the AMD installer which is odd because I'm def on a Intel system, but it seems to work non the less.

I'm looking forward to the next release.

Thanks for the very kind offer! Since I would be working with a wireless controller and a chatpad, and the controller would be bought new, I think I will pass, but I appreciate the offer.

I know this isnt completely related, but is also. When I start my comp I have have about 1 second to push F8 before the chance disappears. So if I miss it I have to restart to allow unsigned drivers to work. Is there a way to make it so I have longer to push F8 on startup? if so, how?

Unfortunately, I do not know of a workaround unless you are using Windows 7 Business/Professional, or unless you want to run the Driver Signature Enforcement Override utility. I don't run it myself, and I can't vouch for the source code since it's closed source I believe, but some people might like that since the chatpad driver isn't signed right now.

I think I actually found a way to do that in some of my early testing. It would be nice to have as an option.

Thanks for trying it! The crash does need fixed, and the AMD thing is kind of silly. As far as I understand, "amd64" in Microsoft's driver system refers to Intel/AMD 64-bit architectures, "i386" refers to Intel/AMD 32-bit architecture, and "ia64" is "Itanium", which is apparently very limited. Basically I build it to be thorough, but I don't know anyone who has actually used it. Someone correct me if I got any details wrong!

Oh, and just to be confusing, I think you have to do a build with the Vista and Windows Server 2008 option in order to make Windows XP 64-bit drivers. I don't have those available as far as I remember, and I think only one person or so has even mentioned the existence of XP 64, haha.

First of all I would like to thank you for working so hard to find a way to get this chatpad to work on windows. That being said I do have an issue. I'm running windows XP on an Alienware Area-51 m7700 (not sure if what I'm using makes a difference) and I can't get the chatpad installer to work. I keep getting an error message, i'll try attaching a screen shot of it.



Again I'm not sure if my system has anything to do with it so I included my system properties in the screen shot. After I ok this message I get one saying that the installer is complete, but it obvisouly doesn't work still.

Hi I have a quick question, will this work with the regular wireless xbox 360 controller if is plugged into a PC using the charge and play kit instead of the wireless receiver? I don't want to buy the chat pad if it's not going to work for me.

I am currently using a wireless Xbox 360 controller on my HTPC using the wireless adapter to play games (Fallout New Vegas) and the chat pad would be an awesome addition to be able to use hotkeys for certain mods without needing a full keyboard.

I also think starting another reward for the chat pad driver for wireless receiver is a good idea and I'm willing to pitch in a few dollars.

Thanks for any answers anyone has and the awesome idea of offering a reward for what should be available from MS already.

Awesome work on the wired chatpad driver!! And even better donating the proceeds to charity! I think a new reward should be setup to encourage development of the wireless drivers there's a thread about starting a new contest here:

GAFBlizzard, here's to a site for a guy who has developed the drivers for OSX, he also has the wired chatpad working. I have OSX and have ordered a chatpad and I'll post here as soon as it arrives if it works in OSX with the wireless gaming receiver. Maybe he can offer some advice or accelerate the process with what he's learned creating his driver.

Any idea how long till it gets signed? Its very annoying having to do the f8 thing each time...

Also, mine bluescreened on me the other day - is that the crash that occurs when the controllers unplugged?
