I never stated it was a waste of time to develop something for the community, all of my Media Center projects are distributed freely and fairly popular. I said it was a waste for a developer to put time into developing a solution when there is no target goal in mind.

If I had a Chatpad already that would be one thing, but I would only be purchasing one to create the driver for other users and not to actually use. Though I did put a bid on a used on ebay earlier today.

IMHO as long as some produces a working driver for XP, Vista or 7 and supplies the source, he gets the prize. Because once that's done I'm pretty sure it'll be easy to hack up a driver for the other systems.

So unless someone here has a serious problem with a Win7 only driver, get cracking and the prize money can be yours. If you're able to get basic keyboard control from a chat pad on a windows computer, you're in business. I'm sure the porting and making it work well with other keyboard layouts and stuff can be done later, by the community.

The real stumper at the moment seems to be understanding the protocol that to chatpad uses...

i thought the same thing, but from what he is saying it might be a total re-write to do that. so...

RULES changed. XP, Vista OR Windows7 support required now.

lets hope this speeds up the progress! PS- i never put in the rules that this should be for the wireless version of the controller. i wish i had, although at this point i would take wired-only compatibility too.

I haven't been here for a long time and just popped in to say I am full support of this contest and would like to wish everyone attempting to write a driver for the chatpad good luck. God knows we've been waiting long enough for Micro$oft to get this issue resolved and they've shown that they clearly don't care.

no kidding... however, i have some new info that is actually promising. cant say much right now because nothing has really happened yet, but PLEASE everyone who can donate DO SO. it will only help get this done. only hint i can give right now is that win7 looks to be the target OS.

ps, HEATHER- is there any way we can get this thread to crawl up higher on google searches? i just tried to search for it and its not on the front page... even though a couple other forums that talk about this contest are on the front page. just wondering, anything helps. also, sticky this thread in this forum if you can too!

Wow and I remember the days you could simply add the PID of a device to a generic driver to get them to work.

I'm not tech savvy, but I just got myself a wireless gaming receiver and would kill for this driver,
and as soon as i get paid I'm going to donate $50 because I'm tired of just looking at my chatpad and sigh-ing.
I'd love to use this with some pc games ]:
