Thread: CONTEST: Xbox Chatpad Driver Challenge

As you can see, I don't often post, but I'd just like to say that it's great you've gone out and bought a wireless controller, it would be an absolute dream come true to be able to have the chatpad on my wireless xbox controller.

Im getting an error when trying to run the driver from command prompt window, it is as follows:

Control utility started.

Failed to open config file "chatpad_config.txt".

There was an error while attempting to load config file "chatpad_config.txt".

Done. The exit status is -1.

Any help is much appreciated! The file is there I can see it *shrug*

This is after I have pressed F8 and disabled the driver signature...as far as I know I have followed the instructions to the T. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling...the whole 9. Ive read and read thru these forums but I just cant seem to get it. *cry*

I also want to say thanks so much for putting tons of time and effort into making this driver. You are awesome!

I think both of you guys missed the part where he says Walmart doesn't carry the controller and therefore he wasn't able to buy one.


GAF, they keep the wireless+dongle controllers stocked at most Best Buy stores. Given that you don't have a Best Buy around, here's a few places you can buy them online:

wow dude, GAF Blizzard must be crazy to attempt the wireless one...although i guess he did solve the wired one so there is no better qualified person in the world. Good luck.

Hey ok so I have been trying to get the chatpad to work on my computer for over a week now pretty much nonstop i used GAFBlizzard's alpha and i was wondering if he or someone else has a better verion of this i have vista and all i can do is get the backlight to turn on. so anyone please help.

Drivers are great. I actually bought 2 wireless controllers and chatpads months ago when this thread started and been hoping, fantasizing, daydreaming, holding wireless controller/chatpad in hand while staring at blank screen imagining that sweet day when i can finally have my all-in-one mouse/backlit keyboard/gamepad/rechargeable in one remote. Nothing else can do all that, and for around $50. Unbelievable. Here's hoping, would love to donate some money to the wireless attempt if donations start again and want to throw some appreciation for making wired drivers. Crossing fingers for wireless drivers though.

Anyways, got impatient, bought wired xbox controller (not made for windows) and got everything running smoothly on 2nd try. Love it, girlfriend loved the backlit keyboard, i love it, much love to you. Here are specs if it helps:

Only 1 thing left for me to do and that is to add a mic to the controller for my Skype & Voice Control integration with 7MC, and i will have the ultimate remote. Was gonna get one of these with an 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter to add voice:

I do not like using the wired headset connected to controller all the time. Just want simple mic to take/make Skype calls and 7mc voice control:

I just wanted to say that

I'm not too sure but I think that the f8 on boot thing only works once a reboot. So what i'm saying is you can't clear the settings then go do the f8 thing reboot again and try installing it because the setting will reset. At least that might help some people who are having trouble.

What ended up happening was things didn't go as planned for one attempt so basically what happened was the drivers weren't fully installed because they had the exclamation points in device manager. So then I did the f8 thing and everything installed perfectly.

also i see a lot of people having problems with the controller window closing before they can read it. You have to go to programs > accessories > right click 'command prompt' then select 'run as administrator' at least until it setup or else you won't be able to see the error messages.

also if the drivers aren't fully installed (as in the drivers have the exclamation points on them) then the controller software won't be able to access the game controller and you'll get an error that says something about 'unable to access 360 controller'

also make sure that the chatpad is fully seated on the controller or again it won't work
