I hope its not too late to put in my "wish list"!

I guess what you have would be a USB DAC + line amp + power amp. I think 24bit 48k would be more than enough for car audio and 40-50W RMS would be enough even for a van. I probably do not need a powerful sub woofer amp because I am not driving a bus so I won't get true bass anyway.

Can you make it with upgradeable versions? e.g. sockets for different op-amp, better caps? I think it would be a good idea to have the line amp/DAC in a DIN enclosure and the power amps in a separate box. I think analogue volume and tone controls works better than their digital counterparts.

Please also include an AUX input in the line amp!

(I admit I haven't read through all the posts so please excuse me if there are topics that have already been discussed!)

i really think this needs to stay as cheap as feasibly possible while still being a great product.

2k1toaster said that it will have 24bit/48khz sampling, so will have some audiophile qualities..

i vote to omit things that would allow easily-upgradeable components-- primarily because i think it would drive the price up too much to allow it to be marketable to people that would really use it.. largest market for a product like this is being the people looking for a amp that they can just plug into their newly built carpc, and get audio out of all their speakers, and sub(s)..

+100 on soundman's statement, with sprinkles on top

The other issue with having parts replaceable, is that there are no standardised connection mechanisms in audio parts as far as I have ever seen, so you would have to be soldering parts onto the board to make them all fit, and I could see that becoming a technical nightmare.

2k1: just a question on beta testing-- i assume that since the prototypes boards were just sent out at the end of november, beta testing is probably delayed from the predicted december test date as well?

i am starting to get bored w/ my car audio/pc setup, so this could be something that could give me something else to do..(i seem to be happiest when my car is in pieces all over the garage)

and i realized i never posted my experience for possible beta testing: check the car audio section i have been tinkering in car audio for about 6-7 years now-- currently, i run active audio processing from the pc-- both eq, and crossovers.. the only thing i haven't done yet is time alignment..(i keep pushing it off till i get a calibration mic..)

I think Toaster is a little busy at the moment with the v6 Fusion Brain. Not that I'm complaining, the new FB is looking to be the ducks nuts, so I'm happy to wait for either/both!!

    Sorry.

For some reason, I did not get the thread update from the 7th...

I have 2 boards in my hands. (Well they are in my kitchen) They are not fully populated. I will snap a couple pictures later and put them up.

But yes chester is correct. Most of my free time has been spent on the FBv6. That and some unfortunate circumstances regarding a radiant water heating system for my house, and a couple days where the high temperature was -25F.
