I am with Stretch4x4. My requirements are pretty basic - FM and DAB+. I already have GPS and wifi, and can tether the PC to my phone for 3G.

It does sound like a very interesting project though, particularly for those that don't already have an established setup and are trying to minimise hardware

well speaking of existing GPS im entering New Jersey today via tunnel and when i get out GPS can not acquire satellites
thats some what why i so want to have reliable GPS unit on the board

By the way, I know at least two more persons which are interested in your FM DAB+ Tuner. And I also think there much more here in germany....

we are finalizing the designs at this point. FM and DAB add on will be released at the time time. DAB/DAB+ will be based on KeyStone chip, they are specifically designed for automotive applications. I will not be able to test DAB tough so will have to rely on 1st buyers to tell me how good the quality is, but since DAB is digital then we should not have any problems ... well maybe we will be able to pick up some signals in Russia

I would also like to buy a radio with continued CF support. The sound quality in your FM sample is rather bad though. A lot of distortion but the audio level is also very (too) high and I guess it is the recording rather than the radio itself that is the culprit...

Yes definately distorted sound. The low volume in the classical music sounded ok (about 75% through the recording) Still some distortion getting through though, just bad reception maybe?

As suggested reduce the volume and see how it goes.

As for the DAB module, Im pretty sure that support FM also? so why not use that on the base board and drop the silab chip altogether? Make the WB and AM optional instead? I cant speak for everyone but I didnt think those 2 bands are that useful.

If you have the I2S connection, why not record directly off that instead, that is the best possible test and demo you can do.

in reverse, i have I2S output on the chip but i don't have a recorder module just yet (of course i can do firmware and record WAV on SD card but that may be a lot of work )
As to what to slect as main chip for a base board... DAB chip m using does not fave FM (but I can get one w/ FM though) but main reason for using AM/FM/WB chip as main is that AM is everywhere and DAB is only available in select countries. So since im in USA and main distribution base is here and in Russia (where dab is not used even though it is broadcasted) i think it makes more seance to use something that is used every where on base board rather then something that is used in certain locations.

On another hand maybe it is reasonable to create base board without any radio on it at all and then buyers can select which add ons they need. This may work better but it will increase production cost and there might be problems with antenna performance as longer lead line is needed (although FM is not 2.4Ghz so RF leakage should not be a big deal
