connect CarPC to pioneer HU instead of Navigation device

    Hello,
I have Pioneer AVH-P2400BT as the HU in my car. External Navigation unit can be connected there with proprietary interface. As i have checked that interface have the RGB video signal,
Audio input and communication lines. Idea is to connect CarPC to that Head Unit instead of navigation box.
    Main advantages:
Use FM/AM/HD Radio of the HU (No need to have additional hardware on CarPC)
No need to have any Front End Software on CarPC like Centrafuse, RoadRunner e.t.c
No need to spend money on touch screen.
You can convert the HU to carPC by simple push the Navi button on HU.

I have one serious problem that i could not find description of communication protocol between HU and NAVI unit.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    And sorry for my English

As you can see few threads down I asked the same thing about panasonic hu. I search the web for few days and found a solution. You need a VGA TO CGA/CVBS/S-VIDEO CONVERTER.

Thats to convert your video signal from pc to signal that your HU can read over that RGB cable. But, those HU displays work on 480x234 at 15Hz as I've found out, and I dont know how your PC video would look like on a screen like that.

And if you want the touch function to work on your PC, you will need to buy touch screen usb controler and wire it on your HU. Only thing is that you should put a relay on it so you can choose if you want tu use touch to controle HU or PC.

All that should work as I found on some old thread on some forum, where a guy used all of this to connect on his stock car HU that had same resolution and that RGB input as this HUs.

I've ordered my Converter, but still waiting for it to arrive. I will maybe try it out just to see how it works. But I also ordered new 7" LCD with touch screen and will try to fit it in my 1DIN mechanism because my HU software looks horrible as its out of date from 2006, so I will just use Centrafuse from a PC to control everything. And I will try to connect HU to this new screen just to use it to connect speakers through it.

    Thanks for reply!
Yes it is possible but there are several reasons why i do not like that solution.
    1. Video resolution will be low.
    1. when you will switch Head unit to external source, audio line will be also switched and you will not be able to listen radio or cd while using carpc. With navigation interface there is possibility to temporary mute HU audio and play carpc sound.
    2. I not like the idea to use additional wiring for touch interface. External navigation box should be controlled somehow, so the interface used for navigation is capable to transfer the touch coordinates of HU screen. If i will decode the data from HU i will be able to make my own usb controller.

that's why i need description of communication protocol between Pioneer HU and external navigation system.

actually that is something different. they are connecting the usb controller directly to Touch panels flat connector. i have ordered now CD-RGB26P box. As i understood it can be connected directly Navi connector of Pioneer HU. It will give possibility to connect CarPC to RGB input of HU. I will need to check if it will have touch interface input.
