While testing the monkeyboard unit with Driveline, I was using just the included antenna and it worked fine in Canada for the FM. SNO

The supplied aerial is fine for FM reception in a vehicle unless you have interference from some part of the car-pc that is desensitizing FM reception. DAB is usually effected more than FM in this case. For fringe area DAB reception an amplified DAB aerial makes a noticeable difference. Because of the higher frequency involved in DAB reception, the quality of the DAB aerial and it's cabling are critical to ensure usable reception.

Moving the radio to the boot and using six inch cables with a heavy ferrite has got rid of the hum and improved the signal quite a lot (with the supplied antenna), I still think I'll be investing in an external DAB antenna though.

If signal reception improved with ferrite beads then it's almost always the result of RF noise coming from the PC / PSU. I noticed a substantial improvement in DAB and FM reception with my external (amplified) DAB-FM aerial. Another thing to try is grounding the aerial cable shield to the chassis about 6" from the DAB module, this removes RF noise from the outside of the cable and stops it coupling into the DAB-FM module's front-end via the module's ground return path.

Just a quick teaser, JP from MonkeyBoard contacted me about his new module -- Just to let you know that we have made new boards with the KeyStone 8650 module coming in next week. This module supports SlideShow. The new board will be AUD86, and CarTFT in Germany, and Cool Components UK will be the first two companies to carry them. He is currently working on the EPG code.

I was lucky enough to get hold of a test unit and have modified my app for the new board, here is a picture of it running.

BTW the new board looks exactly the same as the old one.
