    Hi Mickz & mos33y,
I'm thinking of getting the Kinetic DRA-6003 aerial but wondered how you guys combined the DAB and FM outputs together for the single connector on the board, or do you just use the DAB connection and don't listen to FM ?

Hi, I coded my FE to Auto switch a small aerial relay to switch the correct aerial connection for the tuner.

I'm currently using a Kinetic DRA-6004 and use a Vision V24-310 FM/DAB/UHF Triplexer to combine the DAB and FM.
DAB+ reception is excellent (95-100% signal), FM is okay but reception is also influenced by other things in my car.
You'll need (to DIY) some adapters and cables to connect everything.

I was thinking of using something like that too TBM...thanks for the link. Can't get them over here so will have to get one sent over.
When you say FM is "OK", can you explain a little and what things in the car influence it ?

MickZ & TBM...what did you guys do about the 50ohm DAB/75ohm FM mismatch of the aerial ?

The small impedance mismatch won't make any noticeable difference to the receive performance of the DAM-FM module - Small Impedance mismatch would drastically affect a transmitting device.

Lot of these amplified combined aerials are 75 ohm on FM but are few are 50.

As far as FM performance through a combiner goes, main thing would be the bandwidth-cost trade off in the combiner. With the combined aerials it would be the aerial length, shorter units will have less capture area on the lower frequency FM band.

I can't speak for the Monkeyboard but I have a Frontier Silicon based unit and FM reception is not as good as a 'regular' car radio.
On top of that, I have had huge reception issues caused by the PSU (M4-ATX). Most of that is now gone after making a shielded enclosure with the help of Mickz.
So, FM reception was bad and now it's good enough to listen to. As DAB+ sounds so much better though, I rarely listen to FM anymore.

    @TBM
The DIY connecting cables will be easy to make if I can find all the proper connectors.
No problems with the FME connector for the DAB lead of the aerial or the F-connectors for the triplexer, but what matches with the Hirschmann connector on the FM lead of the aerial ?

Finding out what adapters to use, took some time.
This is how I did it:

Patch cable to go from the Hirschmann connector (M10 x 0.75) to an SMA male plug:

    - AUKAB 445/150 Aerial Screw Radio Coax Cable Lead 1.5 m
    (search eBay item 360561315352)

    - SMA male plug center clamp RG58 RG142 LMR195 RG400 RF connector
    (search eBay item 320870287833)

    --

SMA male to SMB male adapter for the DAB aerial cable connector:

    - SMA male plug to SMB male straight rf connector adapter
    (search eBay item 160821136526)

Or you may want to use an FME to SMA cable instead:
    - FME female to SMA male straight crimp RG58 cable jumper pigtail
(search eBay item 320847775686) - seller does a custom length as well btw

    (I used the connector adapter)

    --

Finally used a couple of these for the combiner:

    - F male plug to SMA female jack gold plated RF coaxial adapter connector
    (search eBay item 221074086550)

These are just a few examples from different sellers.
It may be more convenient to get everything from the same seller.

You've given us a good look at the internals on the DEGA-4001! but could you show me some of it in situ? The angles on some of them sound fairly steep.

Also how did you find fitting, did you have to modify the existing hole at all?

    Thanks.
sorry for late reply, the dega was the first glass mount aerial I tried but unfortunately did not get good reception. I exchanged this for the kinetic 6003 stubby. The internals you see are from this unit. I did not have to make any modifications to the hole in the car. I will take a pic if you like of the installed aerial soon.
