Hey all, just finished designing our LED headlight module for LED matrix of 800-2500 LM. Just wanted to share the progress :)
Lens is 40mm, fan base is 50x50mm, this is small enough to fit in may places yet provide as much light as HID kits

very interested in this. any images of the product in use?
Would the light temperature and power input requirement be equivalent to an HID kit? Also, do you imagine it competing at a similar or lesser cost than the average competing HID kit?
i have hand made prototype installed in my car but due to heat-sink being generic i was only able to go up to 800LM which is ok for NYC but kinda dark for not lighted roads. I am currently machining parts for this design so if all goes well i will have production parts ready next week and i will do some testings on the road with various LED matrices. My main interest is 2000LM for this design and 5000LM for next bigger version ( considering that average HID is 1500LM,l my design should look nice :)
Light temperature on matrix we have is cool white which is the same as most factory HIDs (we don't have blue versions that are very common to aftermarket HID kits) as to price this is some what tricky. So far production will be really manual small quantity batches for people i know so price will be high. Id say very high, but yet cheaper then stock HID kits (ex Mercedes stock HID lamps are 800 each)Quote:

looks like your putting the led vertical to face the lens, why not place the led horizontal to better control the distribution of light? also, what led's are you looking at that only come in cool white?
what do u mean vertical horizontal? our matrix is square :) no meter how u put is its still square
we are using bridge lux matrix, they come in cool or warm white
Also progress update, i cut heat sing out on our CNC, progress was not good as router did not hold height well so i will need to do another run tomorrow

i fear that by just placing a COB array behind a projection lens, you will be creating a high beam light-- which is not very usable for most cases. the only way for it to work for low beam use is to block off portions of the COB array, which would of course drastically affect its lumen output.
that's a cut off filter, we can position it any way you want, in our design it is right between reflector and lens so minimal radiation is lost. At the end of the day assembly can be used as both high beam and low beam. Also im waiting for laser cutter to arrive, when i have it i would be able to shape the lens surface so we can have less light for high beam, so it would be like high beam that does not blind incoming drivers that much.
