I have an XMD1000 that was hooked to a head unit. It's been on the shelf for a year and I found the subscription was still active so i made a serial cable and hooked it up to COM1 on my computer. it seems everything is working as I get my channel list and I tested it w XMTest, SatAmp and RR. The problem is no audio out. it worked fine on the head unit before I pulled it out.
Any ideas on how to wake this thing up?
Check your sound card volume/line in settings, and 9600 for com port setting in device manager. SNO
com set at 9600. i even loopback tested the cable. I tried 2 different rca to 1/8 cables and tried the sound card as well as an external amp. I verified line in operation on the sound card and external amp w a mp3 player and they worked. The sound card soundblaster 0770 uses teh same jack for line and mic and when I plug into that and crank the levels up real high the sound is faint and distorted. it's like it's output is shot/disabled for some reason.... shot on both channels?
Hmmm On my system using external sound card I have my levels set at just above the off line, any higher and I get complete distortion and it's very low. Have you tried a set of amplified speakers plugged directly into the xm box, no sound card, it should output sound in satamp. Do that test if no sound or garbled then I would say it's your xmd1000. I use a little volcano speaker for my tests. SNO
yeah I tried a few line level type amps and get nothing, the soundblaster is the only thing that gets any hint of audio. I think it's the XMD1000 myself but there's so much crap about sending unlock codes or pcr enable codes and 3.3 bus enable plus it's been sitting so long i just hate to miss something simple. I'm guessing there's nothing else avail that would work w the cable I just made? :)
One last thing I would try If you haven't done it already is logon to xm website and refresh your radio. Leave your radio on for the refresh to take. If you need a replacement I have a few new units I might part with one. That's all I got for diagnosing. SNO
