Cheaper is a consideration because this project is being funded (by design) solely by the participants. Ask Seth about his door-stop collection.

You can't have an experimental product to be reliable..... Just make it ask best, least expensive (cheap again ) so that we can test it out to find bug/problem then improve later. What is the use of a reliable product that doesn't work.

Seth what is the expected/approx power draw for the whole unit? Will a 7809 make the cut? My reason is that the stable 12V in the PC already on it limit and making 12V stable isn't easy.

    Hey,

The tuner modules (10 pieces) are ordered so I'm waiting for them while 835 euro's poorer for the moment

I also want to present the last version of the diagram. With the exception of some calculations everything should be OK. The PCB is round 60% ready and I hope to have a prototype end of next week beginning week after.

    Regards,
    Rogier

It should be around 200-250mA with out taking into account the antenna amplifier subsystem.

Seth: I missed a few pages and it seams the design has taken a step forward... Can we for sure say there will be a faisable solution in the near future?

    Thanks.

Hey Seth, I lost track of this thread a while back and haven't been able to follow since. Could you give us all an update as to where you guys are at and what the time frame seems to be and if there are any new cost projections. I konw I'm not the only one who is lost.
It would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Seth go for 12V clean. I remember my Alpine HU remote antenna wire state that 100mA Max. With less than 1A, cheapo regulator like the Lilliput egg can do it.

Any new updates on this guys. I am getting excited about having a radio in my car again. I could have used the AM frequency on my last trip up to Lake Tahoe for road condition warnings.
