Hi! Is the "HU Quality AM/FM RDS/RBDS Radio with Features" a product you have to buy, or can you make one for your self?
And if you can make one for your self, will the PCB-layout, PIC software, OS software etc be available for download from mp3car.com ??

    /sauf

Both. Depends if you can handle SMD components and how easily you can source them. You'll be also able to buy it as a DIY kit.

Can't wait. Been without radio since November 2003. Has anything happened that I've missed in that time frame?

    Hi,

I been seeing that some people have worries for the SMT soldering.
The main idea is to supply the unit as a DIY kit (unless someone has some illegal aliens in the basement or needs some solderig therapy and wants to solder them all ). Now I've been thinking about the SMT and I will most probably design another PCB using normal "small" components like 0.125W resistors with exception of the SMT IC's which are failry easy to solder and other wise you need to ask someones help or let us know so we solder them on.
My main goal is to finish the prototype this week and drop it at home so they can write some basic control sw for it and start testing it. The rest will be for one week later (go snowboarding for one week and also have my Swedish exam this week so I don't have much time)
The DIY kit will most probably contain all the parts needed to avoid that you need to run around for parts. Btw try to go to a store and buy one SMT resistor of this and 5 of that -> they will kick you out. Don't forget that some parts are hard to find (our parts are delivered out of 4 countries) I'm also looking in using some other components to make the PCB less complex but all depends if the company I need to call this afternoon can and will supply against what price.

Another reason for the kit is the PCB, made in larger numbers is cheaper then that you would order one and don't forget it's 2 layer construction with a very small tolerance.Drill 0.6mm, wire 0.4 etc...bottom and top line up

Anyway we will keep you posted.

Hey Racemier, can you supply me of a list of components that are hard to find? I can check with a customer of mine that should be able to deliver components...

I will be very happy to come over to your place to get one of the first prototype kits and test if it is fool-proof I can handle a soldering iron and have some experience...

PM me if you are interested, I surely am! (and will probably be taking a lot of orders of the kit if it is finished!)

This is looking extremely good !

I can't wait for the first receiption results

If they are okay than I am defenility going to buy one of the.

Unfortunate I've switched jobs, otherwise I could produce these boards on a smd-line and ship thim within the EU (ofcourse without the intension of making a profit out of this project).
(perhaps if there is a need for it I can always contact my previous employer and ask him if I can "borrow" the machines for a weekend).
