This is the new thread of the radio project I started about a month ago (link here )
Before I start going into details I'd like to thank publically Antimatter and Rando for their contribution and support on this project. Their ideas and thoughts made this device mature in design a lot faster and a lot better than what I could do by myself.
Here we go.
This device is using 2 ic's made by Philips meant to be used in new generation HU's. The ic's are :
1) TEA6849H
New In Car Entertainment car radio
tuner IC with Precision Adjacent
Channel Suppression
(NICE-PACS)

2)TEF6890H
Car radio integrated signal
processor, mixer and RDS demodulator.

First of all I'll give you an idea what you can expect from this device.
1) Near HU (or equal) reception quality.
2) 4 channel audio out.
3) 2 stereo audio inputs, 1 phone mono input and 1 Nav input with beep generator. All with source auto-select and soft-mute.
4) 1 I2C connector for fast integration with the M10000 motherboard and options to convert to USB or RS232.
5) 2 I2C connectors available for future expansion (already found compatible DAB modules, still searching for XM modules).
6) HU style antenna connector for easy installation.
7) 1 RDS data output header (TTL level signals) with RDS data, RDS clock, RDS quality streams available (will not be utilised in prototypes because we need to focus in reception during initial testing).
8) Clemens 4 pole power connector (+5v,GND,GND,+12V) so you can use any available power cable from your PSU (this can be changed to a molex connector if required).
Locating the required ic's has been quite a challenge for two reasons:
1) Standard promotion politics on behalf of Philips not making widely available parts which are re-branded by other manufacturers/integrators like Alpine.
2) Small quantities and low prices where always a problem when talking with suppliers.
That was until I found a company in China (Beijing) who claimed they had the parts available and they were willing to sell in low quantities (10pcs minimum) and their prices are excellent. I thought it was too good to be true until I received the parts.

I've actually done major research into prototyping and creating pcb, and I found the absolute best way is doing it yourself. What you do is get a photolithographic negative of the pcb layout, and a UV light table. Then you get the copper backed boards that are sensitive to UV light. In the end, I got the best boards ever. Extremely professional and small boards. What program are you using for the board layout?
So are you going to be selling this as a a final complete hardware product then... Will it ship with assembly required or as a completed plug and play device? Also do you have any US distributors lined up? Also what is the software API interface gonna be like, is it gonna work like a serial device similar to how the USB XM PCR works?
