XMDirect Cable

yeah, just soldered the serial cable directly onto the place where the 8 pin din socket was cause i couldn't find any cables for it anywhere...and guess what? i start exem and it says xm radio cannot be find. i tried frodoplayer also. are there any lights this thing will have to show its on or anything?

No, that is the only thing I dont like about it, I am going to mod mine and install a power light.

woah its working!!! some reason the red wire on my psu was putting out 12v and the yellow wire was putting out 5v. am i just stoned or isn't it supposed to be the other way aruond? i think maybe its because i had a little y-splitter cable. oh well, off to go play!

lol uhm, might not want to run your mobo off that PSU

should be red 5v+ yellow 12v+

i know, thats what made me mad cause i was freaking out thinking i did this wrong. the y-splitter cable had yellow wire in the 5v spot and i was tapping off of it. stupid cheap cable! lol i was like damn im not that bad at soldering. i took a few pix of my direct solder job if anyone wants to see

Lol i was using hvnsents diagram and at first i soldered everything up backwards because i forgot he was showing the diagram for a cable and i was soldering onto where it would have been a plug! Oh well. right now its just got 2 chans. 1 is xm preview and then the other is emergency. and then in xm preview it changes the channel its playing or something. its weird, i'm just gonna wait for a while cause i think its normal

Yep! I was doing this inside my house though and the window i had the antenna by was facing the east haha. So yeah, it wasn't getting a good signal. I got the list and then i could play music for a sec then lost signal. And then I didn't get any music on the lower numbered channels. But then like The Move and higher channels like that I could get. Kinda weird. I'm gonna play with it in my car tonight, I just didn't have time to try to get a good 12v source from my car computer (im gonna have to modify my custom case)

yeah I found if the antenna wasnt getting any signal from the sat and only from the ground antenna, that it wouldnt give me anything but the preview channel, as soon as I put it into the car every channel came up.
