XMDirect Cable

I don't know where to start the troubleshooting, either. I have verified the cable is in good shape. In fact, I proved it was routing power when I accidentally shorted the power pins to the the ground pin with the meter lead. I just got back from Radio Shack with my new power supply.

I downloaded the exem software from hybrid mobile and when I try to use it, it gives me an operating error... and for some reason a Frodoplayer XM window opens! Oh boy!!!!

I just gave my $51+ to hybrid mobile. I figured WTF! I'm $600 under budget on this project and I've bought every piece of hardware I wanted and then some!

But here's what I did. I went to another computer and downloade hybrid mobile's XM software. It couldn't find the XM Direct. The computer would just sit there with an eternal blinking cursor. I don't know what I did wrong with my cable - if anything. I could have a bad XM Direct... but I doubt it.

Will update this thread some time next week.

Did you see how much power you're getting from the PSU with a meter?

wow thats more than I would have expected. Hey do you have any ground loop issues or noise sounds in the background with your XM? I'm using a cheap crappy RCA>1/8" cable so that may be why...but didn't know if it was typical to have those kinds of problems. I'm getting the 12v off my 12v rail on PSU.

Yep. 0V dc. The Opus is fine! I just fried the desktop PSU I was using to power the Opus. It's okay - I bought a house a few months ago that was previously owned by an IT specialist. His family (he passed away) had no idea what to do with all the computer stuff in the house, so they left most of it behind. I've been threw three power supplies now. I just decided to stop burning them up and go with one with more power.

By the way, I have three Compaq Proliant 5000 servers for sale if anybody wants one, two, or all three!!! They have 4,5, or 6 4.3G hard drives in them. Shipping them is a bear though! They're about 50 pounds or more.

So did you ever get a steady 12v output hooked up the the XMD? That is obviously your problem! Were you saying that you hooked it up to your Opus and it workeD?

The XMD had twelve volts. It was when I went to test that the twelve volts was miaking its way all the way trough the cable that I shorted the two terminals together and blew the power supply. I have a new power supply, and the XMD is getting the 12 volts, but it doesn't work. I even tried it on another computer with Hybrid's software and it isn't seen by the software. I'm convinced I screwed up on the cable somehow.

$85 sound fair? That's As Is. I've seen them sold on E-bay for $100 plus S&H. They have XP installed on them and of course I have NO idea what the password is!!! I was going to start hacking into them to format the drives and send them out clean, but if you're serious, I'll let 'em go for under $100. I'll pics later, too. I gotta get some food right now... getting... dizzy...

No the only noise I was getting was when I was using frodo take2 which did not mute the line, it used the mute function of the XM so I was getting static on mute. But take3 fixed that problem. I dont use a 1/8" cable, I went and purchased a Soundblaster MP3+ which has RCA inputs and outputs. I power my XMDirect from a 7812 voltage regulator hooked to my car battery.
