Racemier, no chance of implementing TMC? I think all Europeans will benefit and like it ...
I have already been thinking about that a long time and now with the second design I would be quite possible to do that. Just need to find some time for it.Quote:

Maybe this is rather obvious but I thought I'd ask anyway...
Most (all ?) RDS car stereo tuners today have auto tuning capability where they switch to the transmission with the strongest/best reception.
This is sold as an "RDS feature" but is it really a feature of the reciever/rds-decoder or do you have to have two recievers and write the auto-tune software yourself ?

This function is called AF (Alternative Frequency) and indeed has to do with FM processing during RDS updating. I know the TEF6890H support that but I'm not sure if the TDA series do. Racemier?
From TEF6890H datasheet :
"Full support of tuner AF update functions with TEA684x tuner ICs, FM audio processing holds the detectors for the FM weak signal processing in their present state during RDS updating."
So you don't need two tuners, it can be done with a bit of code but it is not a priority right now. Since the PIC is flashable, a firmware update will fix that :) .
The AF is actually done in the tuner, you mute the tuner signal while you give it it's new frequency then you measure it's level, if higher stay if lower go back to original frequency and unmute again.Quote:

Small update:
I received my new PCB's with the TEF design yesterday, so let the soldering begin. No pics yet.
Thanks Racemier, now everything is much clearer. And the radio gets muted if there is a sinal on phone or GPS I suppose...
But wouldn't TMC require you to have two tuners since not all stations transmit TMC data ? That's why I asked a long time ago if the drivers/software would support using more than one unit.Quote:

As far as I know TMC is send with RDS together. You need to decode it and have a memory to store the messages and the tuner needs to stay on to be able to keep receiving and saving the TMC messages.Quote:
