Even though we are familiar with RF theory most of the fine tuning is done through trial and error (playing with settings) so it will take a while to find the sweet spot :) .

CRAM Engineering Model V.02 (look mom, it's a black plastic box).
This is what people saw at the LA carpc meet yesterday. Yes, this is MUCH bigger than the production solution will be

Here's the mess inside. The board on bottom houses the signal processors, tuner, and all the line in/out passive circuitry. The board (upside down) on top holds the +5V and 8.5V power supplies, the microcontroller (not in use yet) and a rs232 line level converter (also not in use yet). There also a bunch of excess solder traces and junk on that top board because it's actually the remnant of the failed V0.1 CRAM EM. :lol:

man now you got me wanting to get one of these tuners to play with

Here's a profile shot of the mess going on inside of there. For those of you who wanted to buy the EM on the spot, are you sure now? :D

And for true comic value, here's what the failed V0.1 CRAM EM looked like. Warning kids, don't try to attach a QFP44 like this!!!!

The huge board (4"x4") at the bottom of CRAM V0.2 EM is an adapter for the QFP44 signal processor. In other words, it let's us make a proper solder connection of that part to the circuit.

:buddy: Now that is funny, why did you just not buy a cheap adapter board? more then likely the same reason I never do, the get it done now syndrome ;)

That and -- we couldn't find a cheap adapter board for the QFP44. The adapter we used in V0.2 was $30; not exactly cheap!

But basically you nailed it right. This project has been dragging on for a long time. We got impatient and just wanted to get the important parts of the circuit assembed as quickly as possible -- by any means possible -- to show that it works. It does! Now we can safely spend some cash to build proper prototypes and not get raped for buying low volume. As far as we know Racemier went straight to manufactured PCBs for Design A and B. We're not sure how many frisbees he created, if any. For us, that approach is too costly because we know we'll make many mistakes on the way. ;)

As a project, it's clear we are heading down a path of producing 1, 2 or possibly 3 working solutions. The more the merrier in my book. :D

Crap...that was our "Insider's funny stuff"...now everybody knows :eek: :D

What is in fact the difference between the 3 models? Do they have different functions or do they all the same?
Has anybody an idea when we can buy this? I know that it isn't easy to say but i mean: a few months, a year,..
