there it would be 17 if I haven't forgotten someone (=1700$) thats more than 1/10 just in a few days.

    @Rando and Seth:
what's your opinion about this?? we all want that circuit, and as you can see, we are willing to pay and to help you guys to go on (even if we don't have the know how to programm or develop the circuit ..). You gave / give us the nearly perfect solution for Radio. you guys made it completly without our help, so just let us help you. (and if these 100$ ar for equipment, and we would have to pay another 100$ for the cram, ok, why not, I would do it)

if we could mobalize these 12k$. would that help?

and, are these 12k$ the price for the first modules (build) and if, how many modules are included in the 12k$'s? or is that for equipment to produce? (maschines, material... know how?)

what about you racemier, how far did your module go? the same Problem?

hm, the PC does boot and already run but i haven't got radio since about an Year (in car)
Always mp3 and CD isn't that great, no traffic radio, no news ... and so on.
I didn't want to have a HU because i want to controll everything right from the Touchscreen (like most of us, right?)

First of all a big thanks to all you guys for your support !!!
There is currently in progress a final attempt to do this the right way (for us and all of you). If that fails our last resort will be the donation-ware approach but we fear that this will lead to slightly overpriced units due to the small production runs each time. From a certain point onward this effort has more to do with logistics rather than electronics...

@Chris31 : Hmmm...apparently you haven't payed much attention to the design parameters of the unit nor the inner workings and nature of the I2C bus.
Maybe we should have made that clearer from the start....I apologise on behalf of the design team.

I2C is all over the design. It's the interconnection bus of all the core logic of the various ic's involved. I2C is a two wire bus and needs a master device (controller) and all other devices configured as slaves. I hope you noticed that the radio has an AUX I2C I/O port. As standard the PC bridge PIC initializes the bus as a master device with all others as slaves. If that PIC is programmed to not initialize the bus if let's say two certain pins are shorted (jumper) then you can use another common standalone PIC (connected to AUX I/O) flashed with the radio control routines and use the radio without a PC. A PIC with a keypad for example. Or a Matrix Orbital LCD configured to work as I2C (those that have one look at the jumpers behind the unit ). Posibilities are endless. Hell we could just give standalone function with a simple firmware flash in the PC bridge PIC too .You'd just have to add the keypad...

    Hope that clears it.

    Cheers

    Jim

Wow now we got standalone/PC controlled HU comming up...

I did know that the radio is I2C controlled, so I know it can be as good as a standalone when coupled with a controller. I though me thinking of a panel, with colour lcd, buttons and remote control, connected to that radio is far too advance.

Obviously it isnt in this case...

    Question Some newbie questions

    Hej,

I have been following this thread for a while now and I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the outcome of it.
    Still I have some questions.
If I understand right there I three designs (FAQ). Do they all three have the same features because it's not clear to me
if they all have USB? I was reading about the I2C but how do you connect this to the PC?
The status of the projects in the FAQ is this correct? Because you guys talk about production while none of the designs seems to be finished or is the FAQ no up to date?
Is it the design from Seth/Rando if we talk about production or do you guys work together for the 3 designs? Are they all three gona be available?
Do you guys already have sw for the PC or does this still need to be written?
Hope you guys can clear up some things for me :-)

    Cheers,
    Björn
