Help needed from EE gurus - 5 channel A/B switch

I am going to need to build (or find) a device that will allow me to choose which set of inputs my 5 channel amp will accept. What I am doing is retaining my stock head unit and adding the carputer's USB 5.1 soundcard to the mix. According to the stereo install shop doing some custom work for me, I cannot feed both into the amp at the same time. I have searched online for about 2 hours but either I am a moron (likely) and have not found it, or it doesn't exist. I have no EE skills.

Could someone design a simple device (I'll pay whatever is needed ) which will allow this?

    Thanks!

    ADDENDUM EDIT:
Reason I am doing this is to allow surround sound thru the rear spkrs. True, any radio with an AUX-IN will allow regular 2-channel control, but will not acccept the proper inputs from the carputer.

So, if I understand you correctly, you want to choose between a 4 channel source (you head unit) and a 6 channel source (your computer)? Are they both analog?

If this is the case, you could easily use the same switch that I've been using to add a second aux-in to my HU.

Use a 4017 chip (LED chaser) to drive a buncha transistors that are tied to the inputs, and the outputs.

    Switch

It's no so much for the full surround effect only, but since I am using the Audigy 2nx, and it has front, rear, and sub outs, I'd like to make use of that.

Yes, they are all analog. The reason behind most of this is my wife... she wants no part of the carputer; she wants to be able to get in the truck and press the radio button to hear music right away. Also, until they get the FM card project working, I'd rather not have crappy FM music sound.

One issue though, the HU puts out speaker level signal, while the sound card puts out line level signal. You will need to find a way to work that out, there are AMPs that will accept both, but only one set active (connected) at a time. Sorry, can't be of much help but those are the issues, I hope there is an easy way, I am in the same boat.

I will be using a pair of these coming off the HU:

Not a EE guru, but I can help. This is a much simpler problem then you might be imagining . The only thing really complicating it is that you have so many channels. If the grounds on each channel can be tied together (I think so, but you might want to double check) then you need a 6PDT switch (or several DPDT switches, but you probably don't want to have to flip several switches.) 6PDT switches are a bit unusual, but a quick google search found one here. You then tie the corresponding PC and HU channels to the switched terminals of the switch, and the outputs to the amp. Ground would be made one of the terminals, and redistributed to each channel after the switch. On the off chance that the grounds aren't common, you'd need a 10PDT, which might be a stretch for one switch.

Alternatively, you *can* feed both HU and PC in at the same time. What you want for that is a mixer, and an extremely simple mixer circuit should do the job.

I want to do the same thing, but what I have found but not sure of is if you put one set of RCA's and put them in the input of ur USB 5.1 soundcard ... I think it will poass through and out to your amp... i think this will work if it does not rely on the USB for power.. I am not sure

Assuming you only want front/rear/sub why not use an Eq that has an auxilliary input like I do. It's a Clarion PEQ460, it's 1/2 din, has two 2 channel inputs and and has front, rear and sub ouputs. It also volume control, fader,low/mid/high control, crossover frequency control as well as sub volume control. It has a switch on the front to switch between main and auxillary inputs. If you turn it to aux and back to main every time you use the vehicle the wife will never know the difference.

    Here is a link: http://www.autovibes.com/clarpeqineq.html

I got mine for $40 brand new on ebay.

that is nice but i am looking for a swicth for each source away from the EQ, and I do not want to put it in the dash i want to keep the dash as stealth as possible, i want everything hidden to prevent theft, I want the HU to control the volume too
