I'm posting this message because I feel like my brain is going to explode. So much researching and I feel like I'm close, but want to verify that I'm not missing something. I'm building a carputer for my '05 Acura TL and I want to have the ability to preview/control the XM channels via my carputer.

What I'm thinking is the way to do this is take the signal from the TL XM unit in the trunk, build a cable like the beginning of this thread and bring it into my carputer's serial port and line in. From there, I send music out via line out, and with the P.I.E.x3 (or something else if someone has a better suggestion) connect it to the OEM headunit.

So the question I have is:
"Is it possible to do this with the OEM Acura TL XM reciever box, or do I have to purchase the XM direct unit?" If I have to purchase the XM direct unit, how does that work? Can I change my XM subscribtion from my TL box to the XM direct box?

I have googled and ebayed and was wondering if anyone has any good pointers to somewhere I can purchase an XM to Serial cable for my carpc?

Hi Lizor,

are you using an xmpcr or a xm direct or something else? There are people here who make the cables for the xmdirect or you can usually find them on eBay. if the xmpcr then you can purchase usb to serial adapters on ebay also...does that help?

is there any way to do this with a different XM reciever, I have the XM Nexus 50 like this:
http://www.xmradio.com/nexus/index.xmc Anytime I connect it to my computer it says "do not disconenct" and only acts as a flash drive for the music storage. I am guessing not, but its worth asking. It works in the cradle from the car kit and recieves fine. I was just thinking it'd be cool to do it

Anybody have the original pictures for the install? Seems that i-hacked.com didn't like the poster stealing the article.. but their site has those same images.

It's not about stealing the article per se', it's about directly linking to the images. That costs i-hacked bandwidth dollars.

Do you have a link to the i-hacked article? I can host the images... Someone will then need to find the original poster and have them update the main page.
