I should be getting mine tomorrow or the next day, so I will start a thread with some pictures of the install progress, even though there really isnt much to it.

jcdillin, i'l just warn you ahead of time. The quarter on the picture next to the garmin receiver in their documentation doesn't do any good. I was in shock when i opened up the package to see how really small it is. Same goes for the wires, there really small and tedious to work with, but not impossible. other then that, glad to see that your going to use it, really good receiver that i'm sure you'll praise.

    I agree,
How about making a sub forum in the GPS forums called "OEM GPS INSTALLS"

Intella - will the antenna work if its inside the car,for example i have the earthmate on my rear deck in the car

My next concern is powering this thing,Im using a c134 case with the 60w mortex PS that came with it, connected to a carnetix, can i get the 3.3v from my PS

1- The antenna would work inside your car, but as with any gps reciever you are limiting its ability to recieve a satellite lock. GPS signals are just like light comming from a flashlight. Say each satellite is a flashlight trying to shine down on your car... Think of objects in your car that would reflect light or not let light shine through for example the roof of your car... Optimally you should have 180 degrees of free space above your GPS antenna to recieve these signals.

2- Ok, to power these modules should be pretty easy. If your thinking about getting the GARMIN 15L then it can handle anywhere from 3.3v-5v of power. So on my system board, there is an IRDA internal connection that had 3.3v and a ground I just connected my wire harness to this. You can find and tap into a 3.3v from your atx power supply OR look for places on the system board that has 3.3v or 5. Another place you could try is your floppy connector... thats 5v or even an internal USB that is also 5.5v...

Quick question for you guys: Did you need to drill a hole in your roof to get the reciever on the outside of the car? Can these be placed outside with no drilling?
    Thanks.

mine is going right next to my xmdirect antenna, which the wire just runs from my trunk around the back window gasket and onto the roof, I didnt have to drill any holes

You just have to make sure the antenna you get is actually mag mount and not through hole or something.

I am getting an AntennaPlus GPS/800mhz antenna for my roof once I get this device, but you could always put it on the trunk of your car, and run the wire to the back of the trunk and inside to the trunk, then you can route the cable anywhere you need to in your car.

The GPS antenna, comes with a very powerful magnet, the antenna weighs les than a quarter so the magnet works excellant.
