The watchdog is already been partly coded on Ricky's card, thats even before the discussion of the autoreset for the PC some weeks ago

The PC must send an $ON command to the card once every second, without this the relay card would then reset itself reverting back to the default relay states.

Because at the moment, theres no apps to run the card this features have been disabled. I cant keep typing $ON every second on the hyperterminal

Ill add a command to the card that can enable/disable the watchdog.

Man you guys are slow with ideas

It would take another IO line, but couldn't you add a sense line and use that to determine if the computer is on or not? (Altho that wouldn't account for cras...ok I'll shutup again )

Thanks for the links. The prototype is basically done so drivers/firmware aren't an issue anymore. I'm redoing the PCB layout (argh missing sparkfun's friday deadline (afaik that's how it works from reading the support forums) so it won't even get looked at until like next friday so I figure I have some time to fix it up a little bit more. The board is 3x3.3 so I'm might as well try to shave it down as much as possible to get the price lower :P

As with most of my projects I got it to the point where it works and then kinda forget about it so it'll be nice to go all out and come up with a professional looking product.

And for open-sourcing it I will more than likely throw a howto/tutorial type of page to put one together but it won't be anytime soon. Until then if you are interested in making one of these rather than buying an already made one look at Microchip's forums for tips and the sample code/schematics you can download that comes with the USB2 dev kit they offer. Once you get USB communicating, it's easy to add whatever you'd like. :P

What language did you write the windows apps in? Im trying to get the mpusbapi.dll in borland delphi, my good old pascal knowledge from UNI comming into some use. I got fed up with VB stuff, crap just wont work for me.

VC6. Sorry don't know delphi...search or ask in MicroChip's forums maybe? Do you know how to do the dll calls from Delphi? (Google turns up http://developer.novell.com/research...gust/04/02.htm which I think had sample code.) Then it should () just be as easy as looking at the sample C demo code to figure out what needs to be called and everything.

No, this is only for relays. You probably want a servo controller card. I know for a fact that there are pre fabbed cards available. And from what I remember, its not that expensive.
